insane temperatures... **solved**

Post by lrosenman » Fri Sep 08, 2017 3:15 am

I noted today that I'm seeing temperatures in the 180+ degree range from my MeteoBridge.

Sure -- PM me with how / what you need. (it sits behind my FW on a NAT'd address, but I can punch a hole).

Notice that the temperatures you are seeing are the values you would get if you take your true temperatures (in F) and convert them as if they were in C to F.

I've seen this happen, on occasion, but never for the longer duration, when you change the settings on the ObserverIP from F to C. MeteoBridge reads this page so it knows how to interpret the values it lifts from the live data page. Unfortunately, there can be a delay between the moment the new units are loaded as settings, and them being reflected on the live data page. During this interval, MeteoBridge will think the values are in C, even though live data still displays F values for 30-40 seconds. MeteoBridge will then convert to F (as your template says it wants), and you get this kind of result.

I've only seen temporary situations like this, for less than a minute and then the live data page catches up and MeteoBridge again delivers values you'd expect. This particular issue is not a MeteoBridge problem. The issue is with the ObserverIP not immediately reflecting the new settings.

I've never seen long duration versions of it, such as you are seeing. If, for some reason, the MeteoBridge continues to think that ObserverIP is delivering values in C while it is actually delivering in F you could have this problem. It would then, somehow, have to fail to pickup the new settings from the ObserverIP. So, one test to do when this happens is to reboot the ObserverIP in the middle. See if the condition persists. If not, the issue is inside the ObserverIP. If yes, there is something inside the MeteoBridge that is stuck on C coming from the ObserverIP.

I also have, on a few occasions myself, as well as read about, some of these peaks when I was not aware the settings had been changed. Whenever I did, however, values directly uploaded from the WU to wunderground for example, were not affected (I have this running simultaneously with another upload to underground.com using a "shadow station"), so the path inside the ObserverIP from sensor values, changed settings, to API output to wunderground is not subject to the delay I described.

Thanks, this is a very reasonable and logical explanation. Lesson learnt might be "don't change units" or when you have to,
"shutdown Meteobrigde first, then change, wait a minute, restart Meteobridge".

I mark the issue solved for the moment.

I do *NOT* change the units at ALL......

This is happening on it's OWN.

As further information, this happens when I'm at work, and not even having the observerIP nor MeteoBridge accessible.

So, it's SOMETHING on the Meteobridge side.
