i got this working! did direct connect of ethernet cable to my mac, manually set mac ip addr to 192.168.0.66, and it completed the file transfer. It would have probably worked without the "transfer"app, but with the app i got confirmation it successfully transferred the file.

Now, on to licensing ...

A tiny bit of progress. I found a 3rd party program called "transfer". It at least has some logs, it is showing a timeout for the transfer. It appears the request is coming in, and the file name is correct. As to why the timeout, I still don't know:

A little more about my configuration. WR902AC is connected to an unmanned switch on my home network, my MacBook Pro is connected to the same switch. My network IP addresses are 192.168.108.xxx. Mac firewall is off.

Impatient as I am, I went ahead and tried to upload the tp_recovery.bin file. I got an error:
Error code: 4503
The uploaded file was not accepted by the device.

So not sure what to do now.

Just bought a version 3.8 WR902AC. Using MacOS Monterey, set up the TFTP server per instructions, tried to flash and didn't work. No errors, no messages, no nothing, other than the WR902AC booted with its factory fw. tried the other ip address, same thing. tried again, and again. same thing.
