Don't forget that you can use Twitter (see Twitter API thread) to send yourself text messages. You can set up an account for your weather station and a different account for yourself, then 'follow' your weather station account and set it to send a txt when an update is posted.

Why can't you just install Mono and use your console application as the plugin? Seems to me that the plugin can be written in any language that the host machine supports (which, on Linux, includes Mono).

I don't know what your setup is, but I've installed Mono on my SheevaPlug and run applications ...
