WMR180 - USB Errors in Log + Missing Data

Post by gcams » Sat Jul 07, 2012 11:22 pm

I'm in the process of replacing my ageing WMR928NX with a new setup, and migrating from Weather Display to Meteohub at the same time. Currently I'm testing a variety of configs on an evaluation version of Meteohub on an ALIX.1D.

I've bought a WMR180 (which comes with a USB wireless data interface), and have read elsewhere on the forums that this should work as a WMR100 in Meteohub.

Indeed, I've got everything going, but the data collection from the station seems patchy and occasionally it misses chunks of data (time wise). Each sensor reports into the console every 60 seconds, but often I'm missing data for up to 5 minutes at a time, in Meteohub. I can see this by monitoring the "Last Signal" value on the Sensor page (using refresh) or by reviewing the raw logs. For example, taking the rain sensor the raw data shows:
20120707200045 rain0 0 0 0
20120707200149 rain0 0 0 0
20120707200250 rain0 0 0 0
20120707200450 rain0 0 0 0
20120707200551 rain0 0 0 0
20120707200652 rain0 0 0 0
20120707200753 rain0 0 0 0
20120707200854 rain0 0 0 0
20120707200955 rain0 0 0 0
20120707201258 rain0 0 0 0
20120707202005 rain0 0 0 0

20120707202106 rain0 0 0 0
20120707202308 rain0 0 0 0
20120707202409 rain0 0 0 0
20120707202510 rain0 0 0 0
20120707203017 rain0 0 0 0
As you can see, (by the bold lines) there are large gaps where no data is processed from the console. I had a look in the meteohub log file and there isn't any errors apart from the occasional "child process received timeout signal (14).", presumably when the hold time is exceeded.

However I did notice these reoccurring errors in the system log:
Jul 7 20:02:19 meteohub kernel: usb 2-4: usbfs: USBDEVFS_CONTROL failed cmd hidlog2 rqt 129 rq 6 len 34 ret -110
Jul 7 20:19:36 meteohub kernel: usb 2-4: usbfs: USBDEVFS_CONTROL failed cmd hidlog2 rqt 129 rq 6 len 34 ret -110
Jul 7 20:24:31 meteohub kernel: usb 2-4: usbfs: USBDEVFS_CONTROL failed cmd hidlog2 rqt 129 rq 6 len 34 ret -75
Jul 7 20:26:02 meteohub kernel: usb 2-4: usbfs: USBDEVFS_CONTROL failed cmd hidlog2 rqt 129 rq 6 len 34 ret -110
Jul 7 20:31:38 meteohub kernel: usb 2-4: usbfs: USBDEVFS_CONTROL failed cmd hidlog2 rqt 129 rq 6 len 34 ret -75
As you can see, some of the timestamps do seem to correlate to when data was lost, although not in all cases.

Any thoughts or help on the above would be most appreciated! I'm wanting to try and iron out all the bugs before I purchase the meteohub license and cut across to the new setup, away from Weather Display but currently this is a bit of a show-stopper for me.

Thanks and regards,
Graham

Just an update on the above, in case anybody comes across this thread in the future.

I have officially abandon the WMR180 console with meteohub, and have purchased an RFXCom instead, to receive weather data directly from the sensors. This is working much better (although I do still have an issue with rainfall totals being multiplied by 10, but that's a separate issue).

Cheers,
Graham
