What's wrong with my rain?

Post by Wölkchen » Fri Feb 27, 2009 6:26 pm

A new day, a new question.
We have today a rainy day. And I watch on the screen from my WH1080, we have today 5,5mm rain. I watch on my Dashboard, it show my 5mm. I watch on my WD I have only 3,3mm. Where from the difference cam? I have switched the rain offset on WD, but I'm not sure is it right.
Thank you for help.
Regards Wöllkchen

There should be no need for an offset in WD.

When using the logging protocol, WD judges rainfall by spotting changes in the total rainfall in rain0 records received from Meteohub.

If you wish to study the Meteohub => WD data exchange look in
WD => View => WS2010-13/WS2500 data logger setup/info
It is hard to read that in the window, so what I do is
[RightClick][Select All]
[Ctrl][C]
Then paste the copied text into something else, e.g. Notepad.

Normally I'd use [Ctrl][A] for 'Select All', but that doesn't work in that window.

Sometimes you may need to try several times to get a good copy of the text.

Has your NSLU2 been doing a Recomputation? If so that may be the problem.

When Meteohub is doing a Recomputation on a NSLU2 it is so busy that it can't also respond to all the data requests that WD sends.

If this is the problem then after Recomputation is complete you may find that WD "catches up".

When the NSLU2 is doing a Recomputation it is probably a good idea to close WD, then restart it and catch up once the Recomputation is complete.

During a Recomputation, Meteohub on a NSLU2 can usually provide the "on the minute" summary of data, but may miss "every 3 seconds" requests. Unfortunately WD only checks for rainfall in the "every 3 seconds" requests. :(

Originally WD checked in "on the minute" too, but that resulted in duplication.
I have asked the WD developer if behaviour could be changed so that the more reliable "on the minute" data is used to judge rain instead of "every 3 seconds", but so far that change has not been made.

PS. So far as I'm aware it's only rain that is affected by this potential problem.

Hallo skyewright

That I found in Info from WS2010-13/WS2500 Datenlogger setup.
But what that want tell me?
Can you say it me? I can read in the 7. line rain0.........total=166.2
But I have never seen it on the display.

166.2 is the total of rain seen by sensor rain0.

When that figure increases WD should register rainfall.

e.g. if it became total=166.5, WD should see the extra 0.3mm of rain.

If that is all you are seeing, that that's strange.
I just checked with v10.37N build 12, so unless Brian (the WD developer) has very recently reduced the level of feedback I'd expect to see a lot more than that. If that is all you are seeing, it may indicate a communication problem of some sort (though a network problem would usually result in some sort of error message).

I'd expect the 'live' phase of data collection to follow this sort of pattern, i.e. "increase time, then a block of data for a whole minute, then individual "latest sensor" every 5 seconds, then increase time and repeat the loop...

One thing to check would be that the clocks on your Meteohub and on the WD computer are both well synchronised.

Hallo skyewright

After the start today, the rain wars right. It look that WD doesn’t show me the rain of the day. But on the next day the rain is right.

Yes that's all what I can see. That's an authentic copy from WD.

That with the question direct to you, was a joke.
Of course, here is the best place for the question!

Maybe I have something extra turned on that makes the extra detail show?
If so, it was so long ago I've forgotten where it was set.
As you will have seen, WD has many setting, in many places!

I'm not sure if it is relevant, but that's not something I'm used to seeing.

I just searched a very big file of debug data (around 10 days worth) and the text "com port" was not found.

What do you have set in Control Panel => COM port => Release comport?

The only thing I have set is a tick in the box next to "Do not check for time to release com port".

Hallo skyewright

In my Comport Panel is a tick on ; Comport relase do not consider.

"Do not check for time to release com port" that box I haven't.

But I have a box for : " Put back the Comport every hour." But haven't a tick on it.

You mean that's make touble?

Sounds equivalent. Perhaps a translation?

Same here

Probably not, since it seems that your settings are the same.

I'm just trying to spot possible differences. So far we don't seem to have found one. :S

Hey skyewright

I have not a translation, but a Word-Dokument with a Screenshot from the Com Port setting.
You can download it her:
http://www.file-upload.net/download-149 ... t.doc.html
I delete on the 02.03.09 in the evening.
I think thats the safe way. Pictures says more then words.

That looks fine.
Maybe the rain things was just a once only problem?
i.e. see if if happens again?
