Texas Weather Report WRL-25 support?

Post by WX4GPS » Tue Dec 13, 2011 7:24 am

I own and Texas Weather Instruments Weather report and it appears the weather plug can use a USB to serial adapt so you should be able to support this station. I think this is all open source, so I hope someone could look into incorporating this station. its a simple command, you can set the baud rate on the station 2400, 4800, 9600, 19.2, and its ASCII. when you send it a single letter, it responds with a line of data

R- Unit responds with current conditions. The rainfall rate is present rather than the term rain. (Note: in 30.04R the “R” denotes rising pressure)
11:15 07/24/11 SSE 04MPH 052F 069F 078F 099% 30.04F 00.19"D 01.38"M 00.72"R

r- Unit responds with current conditions. The term rain is present rather than the rainfall rate. (Note: in 30.04F the “F” denotes falling pressure, a “S” character denotes steady pressure.)
11:15 07/24/11 SSE 04MPH 052F 069F 078F 099% 30.04R 00.19"D 01.38"M 11.78"T

its basically time date wind direction speed aux, indoor, outdoor, humidity, barometer, daily rain, monthly rain, term or rainfall rate

you just keep sending the command every second, and the read the data, its always going to be time is the first 5 characters, the 7th through 14th character is date, 16-18 is wind direction, and so on...

I would be more than happy to be a beta tester. I can be reached at ron.malinowski (at) gmail.com and answer more details. I also have some upgraded to my unit including solar and lightning, which I will discuss those commands.

Thank you,

Ron Malinowski

Thanks for the details. To make a driver and to test it I would need remote access (port 22 and 7777) to a Meteohub connected to one of these.
When you can provide this, I can give it a try and it does not look to be too complicated.

OKay I do have an iconnect not registered or licensed but I can connect it via the serial adapter I have used with a Davis and Peet Bros. now Im going to be completely honest and say that I have no networking skills, but would like to work with you on this, you can contact me at n9qgs@me.com. Am I needing to hook this up and then where am I opening ports up my router and what do I need to set the meteohub to setting wise? i am using a Apple Base Station Extreme Router, right now I am set up on wireless.

Hi, just install Meteohub via a USB stick, you don't need a license for that.
Please attach the station via a rs232-usb converter and forward ports 22 and 7777
of your router to the LAN IP of the Meteohub. Then please send the WAN IP
or dydndns account to "info(at)meteohub.de".

Hi I will try to do this...... its a little beyond my knowledge of forwarding stuff, but I am going to provide you this. it may be enough to start with...

the best and most functional commands I believe will be a 'R' command
which responds

character
1 (blank space)
2 Hh:mm (24 hour time) will be either 0 or 1 or 2
3 hH:mm (24 hour time) will be 0 thru 9
4 hh:mm will be semi colon always ":"
5 hh:Mm will be 0 thru 5
6 hh:mM will be 0 thru 9
7 (blank space)
8 Mm/dd/yy (month day year) will be 0 or 1
9 mM/dd/yy (month day year) will be 0 thru 9
10 mm/dd/yy will always be a "/"
11 mm/Dd/yy (month day year) will be 0 thru 3
12 mm/dD/yy (month day year) will be 0 thru 9
13 mm/dd/yy will always be a "/"
14 mm/dD/Yy (month day year) will be 1 thru 2019
15 mm/dd/yY (month day year) will be 0 thru 9
16 (blank space)
17 First Letter of wind direction S,N,W,E
18 2nd letter of wind direction S,N,W,E or blank if just North, East, South or West wind
19 3rd letter of wind direction S,N,W,E or blank if N, NE, SE, S, SW, W, NW
20 (blank space)
21 first number of wind speed 0-9, will be zero if below 10 MPH or KPH
22 second number of wind speed 0-9
23 Format of Wind Speed, MPH will be M, and KPH will be K
24 Format of WInd Speed P for MPH or a / for KPH
25 This will always be H for Hour of Format of Wind

26 (blank space)
27 first number of measurement, could be a "-" if temperature is below zero
28 second number of measurement
29 third number of meaurement
30 If a "K" Its a Solar Radiation equipped model and column preceding will be 000-150 (or 1500 w/m2 ( the WR-25 doesn't display high resolution so the reading always has a 0 added to it. 10,20,870, etc..) If its a "F" or "C" the reading is a temperature reading for Auxilliary to the whole degree, column 27 could also be a "-"

31 (blank space)
32 first number of indoor or soil measurement, could be a "-" if temperature is below zero
33 second number of indoor or soil measurement
34 third number of indoor or soil measurement
35 Scale of temperature reading "F" or "C" only

36 (blank space)
37 first number of outdoor air measurement, could be a "-" if temperature is below zero
38 second number of outdoor air measurement
39 third number of outdoor air measurement
40 Scale of temperature reading "F" or "C" only

41 (blank space)
42 first number of Relative Humidity measurement, always 0 or 1
43 second number of Relative Humidity measurement 0-9
44 third number of Relative Humidity measurement 0-9
45 Scale of humidity always a "%"

46 (blank space)
47 first number of Barometer most likely a 2 or 3 or 0 if metric
48 second number of Barometer 0-9 if english; 0 or 1 for metic
49 third number of Barometer always a "." if InHg, and a 0-9 if Millibars
50 Fourth number of Barometer 0-9
51 Fifth number of Barometer 0-9
52 this is the rate of change F, S, R

53 (blank space)
54 first digit of rainfall since midnight most likely a 0
55 second digit of rainfall since midnight 0-9 valid
56 third digit will be a "." if inches, and a number 0-9 if millimeters
57 fourth digit will be a number 0-9
58 fifth digit will be a number 0-9
59 if inches will be " if mm, it will be an 'M'
60 this will always be a D for DAILY

61 (blank space)
62 first digit of rainfall beginning of month most likely a 0
63 second digit of rainfall since beginning of month 0-9 valid
64 third digit will be a "." if inches, and a number 0-9 if millimeters
65 fourth digit will be a number 0-9 of monthly rain
66 fifth digit will be a number 0-9 of monthly rain
67 if inches will be " if mm it will be an 'M'
68 this will always be a M for MONTHLY

69 (blank space)
70 first digit of rainfall for rainfall rate (or term) most likely a 0
71 second digit of rainfall for rainfall rate (or term) 0-9 valid
72 third digit will be a "." if inches, and a number 0-9 if millimeters
73 fourth digit will be a number 0-9 rainfall rain or term
74 fifth digit will be a number 0-9 rainfall rate or term
75 if inches will be " if mm it will be an 'M'
76 this will always be a R for Rain Rate or T for TERM (since console reset if you use 'r' in place of 'R' command')

then after decoding this then you can send another command and repeat the process..

so a line would look like

R 18:55 10/08/12 ESE 01MPH 003K 055F 052F 061% 30.09F 00.00"D 00.57"M 00.00"R

in metric

R 18:55 10/08/12 ESE 01K/H 003K 012C 011C 062% 01019F 00000MD 00014MM 00000MR

Let me see if I can get ports forwarded….

I want to clarify the 003K reading means 30 watts per meter squared. really if you lok at a specific character in each field you will know what the wether its solor or a temperature equipped unit or if its in metric or english. all readings will be in either format, you cant have some in english and some in metric.
