Issue with OS rain gauge rain total being multiplied by 10

Post by gcams » Wed Jul 18, 2012 1:41 pm

I've just recently started using Meteohub, being fed data from a new RFXCom USB transceiver (Firmware 45). Everything is working great, except the rainfall data being received from two oregon scientific rain gauges is being multiplied by a factor of 10 for some reason (one gauge is from my old WMR928NX, the other from my new WMR180 station).

Firstly, I have checked the data being received from the gauges directly with RFXmngr, and the data is perfect.. 1mm being recorded for each tip of the bucket, as shown in RFXmngr.

However for some reason, meteohub is recording 10mm from both gauges on each tip. I've temporarily corrected the issue by using the sensor calibration and multiplying the rainfall totals by 0.1, but I'm not sure why this might be happening. Here's a snippet of raw data from meteohub, demonstrating the issue:
20120718111437 rain0 040 0 153600
20120718111524 rain0 040 0 153600
20120718111524 rain0 040 0 153600

20120718111745 rain0 040 0 153600
20120718111832 rain0 040 0 153600
20120718111919 rain0 020 0 153700

20120718112006 rain0 020 0 153700
20120718112052 rain0 020 0 153700
20120718112139 rain0 020 0 153700
20120718112226 rain0 020 0 153700
20120718112313 rain0 020 0 153700
20120718112400 rain0 020 0 153700
20120718112447 rain0 020 0 153700
20120718112534 rain0 020 0 153700
20120718112621 rain0 020 0 153700
20120718112708 rain0 020 0 153700
20120718112754 rain0 020 0 153700
20120718112841 rain0 020 0 153700
20120718112928 rain0 020 0 153700
20120718113015 rain0 020 0 153700
20120718113102 rain0 020 0 153700
20120718113149 rain0 020 0 153700
20120718113236 rain0 020 0 153800

20120718113323 rain0 020 0 153800
20120718113412 rain0 020 0 153800
As you can see, the rainfall total is incrementing by 100 each time the bucket tips, when it should only be incrementing by 10 (1/10 mm). I've tried both gauges independently, and both behave exactly the same way, so I suspect it's something happening inside meteohub itself.

Has anybody else experienced this issue or have any thoughts as to why this might be happening? Any thoughts most appreciated!

Cheers,
Graham

I have the same Problem with my PCR800, I also solved this issue by multiplying with 0.1

Thanks DevilsneT, glad to know I'm not the only one experiencing the issue. It would be nice to get this sorted, as I am applying further calibration due to a different sized funnel on my gauges. Having to apply a 0.1 factor to begin with, reduces the decimal resolution of my further calibration which has a cumulative effect to my monthly rain totals of a few mm.

Anyway, if it's a bug, hopefully Boris can correct the issue.

Are you sung the "old "RFXCOM USB dongles or the brand new "rxfTRX" ones. Please give me some details on the exact model you use.
The new rfxTRX are still a bit beta inside Meteohub.

Hi Boris,

I'm using the new RFXCom "RFXTrx433" unit.

Another small anomaly that I have noticed with the RFXTrx433 and Meteohub is that Meteohub is reporting battery warnings on both my anemometers, however neither anemometer have low batteries (as confirmed by the Oregon Scientific consoles and also by displaying the output of the sensor data received by the RFXcom, directly in the RFXmngr utility):

Sorry for mentioning this here also, but I thought it might be connected with using the newer RFXTrx433 and meteohub? Many thanks for looking into the rain accumulation issue!! Cheers, Graham.

Factor 10 and low battery bug found, will be solved with next update.

Wow, that was fast work!! :)

The rain issue is looking good thank! After the upgrade, I can see the rain-total values having reduced by a factor of 10:

20120802200943 rain0 0 0 11000
20120802201032 rain0 0 0 11000
20120802201206 rain0 0 0 1100

20120802201253 rain0 0 0 1100
20120802201340 rain0 0 0 1100

So that's great news thanks!

However I'm still seeing the same issue with the low-battery warning for the two anemometers (but not sure if you made any changes in that area?)?

Thanks again! Cheers, Graham.

Thank you so much Boris! Working perfectly now.. incorrect low battery warnings on the anemometers have now gone:

Thanks again for fixing so quickly!
