No connection on Vantage Pro 2 / "can't open /dev/ttyMH"

Post by ChrisBoom » Wed Nov 29, 2017 6:48 pm

Hi all,

after setting up the Meteobridge Pro I cannot connect to my Vantage Pro 2, neither by USB (Fjord Logger to USB 2.0 Hub to MB Pro) nor using the RF antenna. I even set it up right next to the ISS but to no avail. The log file below shows an error ("can't open /dev/ttyMH") and processes will stop.

A firmware update for the RF antenna returns:

Stopping loggerd... done.
Downloading flash tools and recent Meteostick firmware... done.
Extracting archive... done.
Resetting USB device... done.
Flashing Meteostick firmware... failed.
Starting loggerd... done.

I hope I did not receive a defective unit as for this price I'd expect something rock solid. Has anyone been able to resolve the issue described above?

Best regards
Chris

Hi, can you please give me remote access as explained here:
viewtopic.php?f=57&t=9885

I will need URL and password. Please send this to "info(at)meteobridge.com".

After a zillion reboots and trying different locations for the box I finally got it to work. It seems that it's really, really picky with the RF signal and you must almost place the MB Pro next to the station to get a clean reception. I have the Vantage Console retransmitting now and it seems to work. After a reboot, the station takes up to five minutes to start receiving signals. Is that normal?

You will find the RF signal will not stretch as far as a Davis console does but in saying that it certainly doesn't need to be sitting on top of the ISS. Yes 5 minutes can be normal but can depend a little on config changes etc. What is your RF Sens settings on the Station tab?

Hi Chris, as long as it is not raining my MBP Red picks up my Vantage Vue ISS at a range of 400m through a double glazed window! Admittedly the remote location has a very low background RF noise. Also, not only is there a clear line of sight, the ground falls away steeply between the MBP Red location and the ISS. In practice I have put a repeater in between as it rains quite a lot in SW Scotland.

This is truly disappointing. Mean time between failures for the MB Pro I bought in Nov. is now down to four days. Failure meaning the box goes offline and can't be addressed through the network and won't receive or upload any data. The "can't open ..." error displayed above is showing up again. When I reboot the AP, I can login and then confirm the WiFi settings (which are still there). Ten minutes later the service sometimes starts, sometimes it crashes saying "can't open...".

I've simpled down the setup far enough now to blame this on the MB. The MB is sitting across the room from the router and even has its own network (and SSID) with nothing else interfering on its channel.

Whenever I reset the box, the system log only shows the messages since the last boot-up. Is there any way to access the complete sys log file?

Cheers
Chris

Did you give me remote access as asked for in this thread? I can't remember as I frequently login on request. Mostly I can solve the issue rather directly.
