Wireless on RPi4b

Post by churchi »

Hi All,

Is there a way to get the wireless module to work on the RPi4b?

I have completed the steps to add my wifi network inside the network setup menu. Upon a reboot the wifi does not work.

When i connect a screen to the RPI i can see that via the shell the wlan0 interface does not come up with an ifconfig. So something is a miss on the config somewhere.

Has anyone been able to get this working? If so can you let me know whats needed to be done?

Cheers.

I think i have potentially nailed this down.

The version of OpenWRT that the current Pi4 image is based on is:
OpenWrt SNAPSHOT r14089-1bfba18a36 / LuCI Master git-20.220.15511-b8a74cb

This version doesn't seem to recognise the WiFi module in the Pi4.

I completed a manual upgrade of OpenWRT to this version:
OpenWrt 21.02.3 r16554-1d4dea6d4f / LuCI openwrt-21.02 branch git-22.083.69138-0a0ce2a

This version looked to have full WiFi functionality with the Pi4 WiFi module. It even detected it had 2.4 and 5g bands (which is normal) this time. Before the upgrade the WiFi module was listed as a Generic 802.11bg module which is incorrect.

During the upgrade of the OpenWRT it did of course nuke the meteobridge software (maybe it was still there, the URL certainly didn't work). I have asked Boris to compile a new Pi4 image with the latest OpenWRT underlying software for me to test out.

Will report back once i have some more info.
