Partial success. Seems to boot now, but the video won't sync so I can't see what's on the screen. Doesn't seem to matter if I switch PAL/NTSC. Can make out enough to see the mouse move, so looks like something is running.
Will have more of a fiddle later tonight and see what I get to
By the way, the LED is still red. Maybe it's not a useful troubleshooting indicator after all.

Many thanks for your help so far!

Scott

I think the problem I'm having is because the AV out is 720p signal; which is not generally compatible with composite video in?

well great, this is progress anyhow. Please try the attached which is compiled with 1080p60 AV out
script-mini-x-1080p60-1gb.zip
(7.31 KiB) Downloaded 775 times
On your meteohub SD card first partition, rename "system.bin" to "system.bin.old". Download and unzip the appropriate file (ie "script-mini-x-1080p60-1gb.bin"), copy to card and rename to "system.bin". That's it

Hi

No luck with the 1080 file, Could you create a "PAL" version for it? Looks like that's a valid output mode and that should work with the composite screen.

Thanks for your help!

Hi

No dice I'm afraid. No sign of life from video screen with this version; very strange. The 720 and 1080 versions would display something, just wouldn't sync so it was gibberish. This one just stays with the blue screen. Need to go out soon, so I will have more of a play later and see what I can figure out. The video output is fine without the SD card installed, so it is something to do with the sd setup.

OK, and the referenced thread concerned cabling mostly, so as it displays fine in Android we can assume the cabling is correct. The best thing to do would to be to see if you can determine exactly what mode is working in Android and then see if there is a match with the following options available in the config file.

xx used for tv/hdmi output used for vga output
0 480i 1680*1050
1 576i 1440*900
2 480p 1360*768
3 576p 1280*1024
4 720p50 1024*768
5 720p60 800*600
6 1080i50 640*480
7 1080i60
8 1080p24
9 1080p50
10 1080p60 1920*1080
11 pal 1280*720

Hi

Sorry for the slow reaction, have been out of town. I didn't have any luck with the AV port, but borrowed a HDMI compatible monitor and have got the HDMI version going, with two new problems to resolve.

1. The unit doesn't boot up everytime. I'd say it takes about 5-6 attempts to power-on before it boots up. When it doesn't boot up, the USB mouse doesn't respond, no output to HDMI, etc. When it does attempt to boot it boots through fine.

2. No luck configuring the unit to talk to my wireless network. Each time it boots up I get the prompt that it wants to connect to localhost with user name meteohub. But when I get to the network screen, those aren't the settings.
I've marked the Wireless LAN radio button, not LAN. Have still filled in IP address, subnet, etc. on the LAN section, just in case. The IP in the LAN section is blank each time it reboots, but the WAN IP remains filled in. DHCP isn't ticked. I've filled in my wireless network info in the wireless section also.
The status screen says that the unit has no internet access. IPSCAN doesn't show up this device.
(When I use the device without an SD card I can connect to the network ok, so the hardware appears to be working).

Any tips appreciated!

Thanks

Scott

Hi everyone,
Just one question:
Was someone enable to get the 1GB RAM variant running in the meantime?
I also tried different things, but without success so far.

Is it worth to wait for the Admin of the forum to finally solve the problem, or should we forget about this hardware varinant and buy an other platform?

Hi
Thanks for the updated image. Seems to be improved, but I still don't have it working fully.
Unit now seems to boot up properly each time which is making things much easier. However I still can't get it to connect to my network.
I've got WLAN ticked and filled in all my info correctly. I can't find it from my router or from IPSCAN and status screen shows it as having no internet access.
I've changed settings in the upper WAN area, but they don't stick - the gateway resets to 0.0.0.0, the WLAN IP to 169.254.223.40. The status screen also shows this WLAN IP. Doesn't seem to matter if DHCP is ticked or not.
Any help appreciated!
Thanks
Scott

@Admin thanks for the update. The Mini X Plus now boots but there seems to be a problem with the networking. I can hook up to my WiFi but I can't ping it on the network. Looking at the logs (dmesg) it looks like the system might be powering down the network card as per this post viewtopic.php?f=53&t=9174 but I can't see the /etc directory to apply the fix.

Hi,

after a few months break I've started again trying to get my Mini-X-Plus working with Meteohub.
I've read through loads of websites and forum postings about the A10, u-boot and so on within the last week. Now I do know a lot more about it, but my Mini-X still doesn't work.

I'm using the new Meteohub image for 1GB Mini-X now (mhminix-plus-v4.9u.img), but still can't see anything but a black screen. I've connected my TV via HDMI to the Mini-X. My TV is a Sony Bravia KDL-46Z4500 and following it's technical specs it should support 1080p as well as 720p.

I've tried playing around with the system.bin and tested several settings without any success.
But I think that it must be only the settings in this file:

I found out that obviously the Mini-X is booting from the SD card and sends a signal to the TV. Because shortly after starting (plugging-in) the Mini-X, my TV shows the video format that I have configured in system.bin (either 720p or 1080p)!!! But then nothing else can be seen, the screen stays black.
Also USB hub, mouse and keyboard get power.

Do you have any idea what settings I could try???

Does anybody know how to get access to the filesystem on the nand flash? Then I could have a look at the original hardware configuration that works with Android...

I would appreciate any help.
thx Stef

As my Mini-X-Plus device seems to be a little bit different from many others, I've put some photos online for you.
Like all the others it's some chinese thing, but I've ordered it on ebay from a UK placed vendor.

The chassis is black and the name written onto it is 'Smartbox' not 'Mini-X'. But like all other devices known as 'Mini-X-plus' or 'MK805' it has built-in an Allwinner A10 with ARM Cortex-A8 CUP (1.5 GHz), 1 GB RAM, 4 GB nand flash, HDMI and AV out, 2 USB in, a MicroSD card slot and WiFi.
I've opened the chassis to have a look inside and it really seems to be the A10 - at least it's written on the chip.
For me the only optical difference seems to be the LED which is blue instead of red - or at least I've never seen it in another color.
The device came with Android 4.0 which works fine via HDMI on my Sony Bravia TV.

Here you can see the pictures:
