Hi-

I have purchased an Acurite weather station, with a console that has USB connectivity. I also have a handful of Raspberry Pi computers, and would like to put one to use publishing the data from this station to the web. I would like to feed some of the popular amateur weather sites, as well as possibly setup my own site (I do have a domain, and did this years ago with an Oregon Scientific station until it died), and also want to keep my own weather data for possible future analysis.

I *think* meteohub does most/all of this, but there is conflicting information on your sites. The homepage for meteohub does not list Acurite as supported hardware, but the comparison page does. So first question, does meteohub support the Accurite station, via USB?

Second question concerns the software distribution -- your "Setup Raspberry Pi" page describes creating an SD card image directly. Is meteohub also available via a supported package manager? If not, I'd like to know that all the usual RasPi software will work. I want to know that I'll be able to update the core OS using the normal methods, run other software on it, etc.

Finally (for now!), there are some references to needing a USB hub between meteohub and some stations. Will this be needed between my RasPi and Accurite station?

Impatient me -- I dl'd the image, setup an SD card, and booted the Pi into meteohub. It connected to my Acurite station, recognized it in USB HID, and I just had to change it to USB mode 3 for it to find sensors. I then plugged in a wifi module I'd used on other Pi's, and it seemed to be recognized and usable very soon. After disconnecting ethernet, it no longer seemed to be responding (even with the IP address from the wifi module), but after a reboot, all was well.

Looking good so far! Next will be publishing the data to some Weather networks...

Acurite is supported by Meteohub. Meteobridge and Meteohub share basically identical data logging processes.

Meteohub is not available as an add-on package to any other distribution.
Meteohub image makes your RPI a single task dedicated appliance
which is totally controlled (including network settings etc) by a browser.
This has great advantages for the user who is bored by installing Linux
stuff an packages. If you are more of a Linux geek focussed to install many
things in parallel just for keeping life interesting, Meteohub is not for you.
wview or weex do fit this experimental RPI approach much better imho.

USB hubs are needed for the Atheros based Meteobridge platforms,
as the Openwrt distribution for those platforms have shortcomings
(or the chipset itself) in handling USB 1.x devices. RPI (as all other
Meteohub platforms) is not impacted.
