New user with problems..

Hi.

I have a LaCrosse 2300 series weather station that I have had running for years with an NSLU2
running Open2300 http://www.lavrsen.dk/foswiki/bin/view/Open2300

My NSLU2 died a few weeks ago, and I could not get it working again.

I found the Meteobridge solution, and thought this would be an OK replacement.
I recently got myself a D-Link DIR-505 and reflashed it with Meteobridge yesterday.

It does kind of work, but data seem to be intermittently uploaded to WU.
My LaCrosse sensor are wired to my display for fast and more reliable updates.

The DLink 505 is also on my wired network.

There is a couple of screenshots in my dropbox here:

https://www.dropbox.com/sh/52vc5sruwtnq ... whE3a?dl=0

It looks like Meteobridge uploads to WU, but the weatherstaion comes and goes in the WU maps,
and as you can see WU says here that it is 13 minutes since last update..

Any ideas what could be the problem?

My weatherstation is here at WU (fullscreen RapidFire)

https://www.wunderground.com/swf/Rapid_ ... =ITORVAST1

or the "normal" one here:

https://www.wunderground.com/personal-w ... =ITORVAST1

Both worked perfect with my Open2300..

Hope someone could help me with this!

Here I am responding to my own post..

I have "downgraded" to Meteobridge 3.0 (Aug 9 2016, build 10243), and that seems to work more reliable than the current 3.1.

Are you using the mandatory USB hub? If not, that is the reason for your drop-outs.

Hi,

I was using a Hub..

My Serial / USB converter cable is USB 2.0 anyway, so I removed the hub yesterday.
I can not see any difference with or without the hub with version 3.0

You need the Hub. I doubt you can know which protocols your converter is speaking on the USB side when being connected to the Atheros chipset in the DIR-505. Which chip is your converter based on?

Is data shown on "live data" also being outdated? WU does have its own troubles sometimes. It is more interesting to see if your live data tab is showing problems.

Could you please send the system messages from "system" tab. This would help.

Are you sure your WS2300 is performing fine? It is a rather vintage station (to say it in a friendly way).

Hi.

To be exact it is a 2355, but it still uses the same protcol and the same sensors as the 2300,
and comes with a USB to serial converter in the box.

My serial to USB converter uses the PL2303 and ADM211 (this is NOT the one delivered with the 2355).

I can not see anything wrong on the "Live data" tab and on the "System" tab there is nothing much to report
either.. I have just made a few screenshots and they are now in my dropbox.

All in all it seem 3.0 works OK with my La Crosse 2300 series weatherstation.

PL2303 USB serial converter needs the USB hub for sure.

Hi.

OK. But why?

I can not see any difference in performance when I take a look at the "live data" tab?

For me it seems to work exactly the same way with or without a hub with my USB - Serial cable.

USB hub is needed because of some short comings in the Atheros USB drivers and/or hardware that
will cause USB disconnects when devices connected speak USB 1.x. PL2303 does. It does not matter
that it also could talk USB 2.0. USB 2.0 hub is needed to ensure pure USB 2.0 communication to the
Atheros chipset. When you are deeply interested in that topic, please consult the openwrt forum,
where this has been discussed in length.

OK!

Thank you for info. Will have a look at the OpenWrt forum.
