Here is the error!

Ok, then only thing I can offer is to login to your device remotely and to check what is going on.
Can you please enable remote access and send URL and password to "info(at)meteobridge.com"?

Problem was that the SMS contained a quote character that interferes with Meteobridges internal handling of SMS text.
I changed this with just released version.

I have a similar (or same) problem.
When I first tried it I received the same "cannot verify" message.
I noticed that I had been up for 42 days so I rebooted and now have the latest firmware (December 11, 10757)

Now my error says Error: ERROR 422: Unprocessable Entity. (no more tries)

My SMS message is: Test !
My hardware is DIR-505
I still have 14 Euros on my account

Any ideas?

OK, I found my problem.
I read the log files on MessageBird. It seems that special approval is now needed for SMS to the US.
I filled out the form at https://www.messagebird.com/app/en-us/preferences/sms

Well, I'm not a happy camper.
In order to send a SMS in the US I now have to purchase a virtual number for one euro a month.
Now, 12 euros a year won't kill me, but that was not the deal when I signed up.

Am I the first to run up against this?

If it's any consolation, I can now send SMS messages.
