FineOffset Clone Station: Data spikes **solved**

Ambient Weather WS-1090, dlink DR-505L converted to metrobridge, powered USB 2.0 hub in use.

A month or so ago, I was using the latest version of meteobridge 3.2 and kept getting data spikes, mostly in precipation rate and amount. It got so bad, AWEKAS blocked me for 6 days. I thought the issue was my USB hub and an early version of the DIR-505. During this whole time, we got zero rain or snow. My WS-1090 console likewise showed zero precipitation.

Thinking it was an issue with my hardware, I got the newest version of the DIR-505L, a new USB 2 hub and even replaced all the batteries in my weather station console and sensors.

I still had a couple of spikes, but nothing like before. Since v3. 1 of meteobridge was stable, I dropped back to that after a few days.

No more spikes of any kind for a month.

I noticed last update to 3.2 was more than a week ago, so 2 days ago, I moved back to 3.2 (Feb 23rd release) and this morning got a spike showing rain rate of 4.5in/hr and 0.15" if rain at 3am.

Didn't happen, zero rain last night, console shows zero precip. also. The only difference between the last few days and the month prior, was updating meteobridge to 3.2

I've now switched back to 3.1 because I believe there's a quirk in 3.2 where something is causing data spikes in precipitation reporting. A pure GUESS would be a database issue.

Comments? Anyone else seeing weird behavior, in particular, reporting of rain when there was none?

Well... Not 3.2 vs 3.1, it did it again just an hour ago, been on 3.1 for 20hrs now, nothing on console but live data shows it.

Very weird, also got small spikes in temp and humidity at the same time.

Anyone have any ideas?

Can you please give me remote access? I would like to look into more detail here.
Please mail URL and password to "info(at)meteobridge.com".

I have an Acurite 5 in 1 weather station reporting to Wunderground below:
https://www.wunderground.com/personal-w ... CASANJO582

I've been getting spurious rates of rainfall reporting with no actual rainfall accumulation... and it hasn't rained. Let me know if you'd like to log in to my hub.

That's exactly what I am seeing, rainfall jumps when there was no rainfall at all, and my console is also reporting no rainfall.

Thus my presumption... meteobridge has a database issue or whatever that is causing meteobridge to post erroneous data.

Admin will be the one who may or may not need access to your meteobridge. I have granted him access to my meteobridge but haven't heard if he's found anything or not.

This FineOffset station is known not to be always top reliable on delivering data via USB. I don't think much can be done here.
Clearing internal data cache of the station (if one can do so) might help.

I had a look at the setup but cannot find anything special.

Mine is an Acurite 5 in 1. I've never seen spikes like this on the console.

Let me know if you'd like to take a look at mine.

Will a daily reboot clear cache? I do have a service setup to do that but currently turned off. I now reboot once a week via cron.

In the meantime, I will go back to 3.2

Added in edit:

I've set a one time alarm to notify me if meteobridge thinks it's raining [rain0rate-act] >= 3 it'll reset if [rain0rate-act] <= 1
When triggered, I will get a text msg so will immediately know if it's really raining or not. That way I csn notify info (at) meteobridge if I am getting a data spike

I just got a data spike tonight at ~9:10pm. I see lots of problematic temperature and temperature readings, but nothing to do with rainfall rate.
logger (09.03.2017 20:00:32): Bad thb0(0) sensor data, "temperature x10" (2561) out of range [-500:2000]

logger (09.03.2017 22:56:36): message above repeats 336 times.
Any idea what I can look at to diagnose this?
I was hoping to upgrade to a Davis station at some point in the near future and use Meteobridge to report it, but it looks like its not very reliable, so I might have to revisit that.

I am working on a solution, but the mass of errors you get is not typically.

And the latest.. It did rain last night, and console shows it and it was all reported correctly.

Is the data spike problem specific to the Acurite 5-in-1 weather station I'm using? Or is it a more generic problem. Is there something I should be on the lookout for?

In any case it hasn't happened in a week; seems it happens more during rainy periods. I'll see how things go when it rains next week.

Problem discussed here is specific to handling false packets on the FineOffset WH-1080 clones.
Accurite is not suffering from that.

Latest update seems to have it fixed for FineOffset stations.
