Email setup. **solved**

I'm trying to configure the email settings for events, but the "test email" button" doesn't send me an email (which is what I'm expecting based on the usual function of such buttons). The details I have entered are correct, but my ISP uses my email address as the username (including the "@") and insists on a secure password which includes letters, numbers, special characters etc. with a minimum length of 12 characters. Could the complex password or username be preventing the test email being sent? Is there any way of looking at the log for the send process?

Any help would me greatly appreciated!!

Same here:
(Nano SD, SW Version: Meteobridge 4.4 (Oct 6 2020, build 3470), FW 1.4)
I've checked twice the settings, just copied from outlook e-mail client but I get always this Error:
Failed to send email: msmtp: network read error: the operation timed out msmtp: could not send mail
I've tried with 2 different e-mails account's.

1. From the ISP, Swisscom (Switzerland).
Outgoing server: smtpauths.bluewin.ch on Port 465
Authentication: SSL/TLS

2. From my Hosting Provider, "Hoststar"
Outgoing server: also on Port 465
Authentication: SSL/TLS

I've also tried with both Authetication settings in Meteobridge "tls" and "starttls" but I get always that error. I never used this e-mail feature before.

Thanks a lot, for any Help

Where do you see the error message? I don't even get an error, it just processes for a while and then acts like everything happened perfectly but no email is received........

(Meteobridge 4.4 (Oct 6 2020, build 13952), FW 1.4 )

OK, I don't get that message. I just get the normal (for Firefox) 2 alternating dots in the header tab to indicate that Firefox is "thinking" or waiting for data, then the original screen with no message..... and no email!

I've tried my domain SMTP server which requires a logon, and also my ISP's SMTP server which has no logon or security, and the same thing (i.e. nothing) happens with both!

I had a suggestion PM'd to me overnight, from MS72@MH, who suggested trying port 587. Port 587 is one of the ports frequently used for SMTP (together with 25 and 465), but is not the port recommended by my ISP who specify 465 as their chosen client configuration. I use port 465 for all my email clients, and all my other devices that email error messages etc., and I have no problems......

However.......

Changing the settings of my Meteobridge to use port 587, as MS72@MH suggested, instantly fixed the problem and the test email arrived. I have no idea why this should be, perhaps there is a small bug in the Meteobridge code, but in any case, port 587 (assuming your server is open on that port) might work - it worked for me!

Thanks MS72@MH !!

Hi Warb
Thanks for sharing the information, I appreciate that.
Port587 solved the problem also on my site, so far so good. But I read that my ISP will drop the the Port:587 soon. So I think it's a question of time, at least for me. ;)
I'm not shure why Port: 465 should not work in the MB, maybe it is not implemented, or perhaps other reason's.
maybe someone else can answer that?

For the moment it works..
Thanks Marco
