Hello,

I did receive my new Meteobridge Pro today and started to work on it te get it working.
Most went well but the SFTP connection to Stato Webbuilder failed.
Filezilla and FTP voyager both had no problem connecting.
Strato did disable FTP a few months ago for security reasons.
Went on the internet to see if this is a known problem and there a lot of problems were found, Specially with Strato.
Made several calls to my seller, weerhuisje.nl and to Strato and finally Strato pointed me to a setting in Powerweb to activate FTP again.
But they warned me that this is only a temporary solution and FTP WILL BE DISABLED in future.
Is there a way to find out what is wrong and where so SFTP to Strato will start working????
If other SFTP programs are connecting to Strato and Meteohub is not then there should be a missing link.

Looking closer at this it turns out the RSA HOST KEY of Strato is missing or to short. Dropbear on openwrt requires a RSA Host Key with 2048 length. Strato does not provide this for unknown reasons.

SO PLEASE AVOID STRATO AT ALL COSTS. If you have a relation to STRATO giving them a hint that their out-of-control security guys are damaging their business might be a good idea.

This is something that should be addressed to and solved for the future.
Please look into this and if necessary make contact with Strato to come to a solution.
We as customers cannot solve this.
I will also send a mail to Strato to trigger their attention.

For now I will use FTP and that works fine and I still think this is a nice tool.

As said, avoid crappy STRATO and you are fine.

How can you say that when other SFTP communication providers DO work with Strato.
I do use Filezilla and FTP Voyager scheduler and both work fine.
Therefore I would say that it is not ONLY a Strato problem.
I still hope that in future this problem will be solved.

But I addressed Strato also and they did not come with an answer yet.
When they do I will keep you updated.

You will not have any problems with STRATO when using Linux, Windows, Mac installations. That is not the point.
What STRATO does not realize is that embedded systems based on OPENWRT and alike will not be able to master their hurdles.
As STRATO does not care about these type of clients (webcams, printer, meteobridge, ...) it is not a provider suited for embedded devices like Meteobridge.

Wij hebben elkaar onlangs ook telefonisch gesproken.

Ik heb het er intern nog eens over gehad en het antwoord is helaas erg simpel.

Wij bieden plek aan op onze servers voor een enorm breed publiek. Omdat wij vrij veel klanten hebben die zich niet in een land concentreren en wij in Duitsland gezeteld zijn hebben wij de veiligheidsnormen zoals wij die momenteel hebben.

Omdat deze specifieke casus niet vaak voorkomt en wij vrijwel geen klachten krijgen over dat bepaalde data niet door het SFTP verbinding komt maar wel door de FTP verbinding is dat voor de Duitse afdeling die dit in gang heeft gezet te weinig reden om de complete ontwikkeling aan te passen.

Ik moet je dus helaas informeren dat wanneer de weerdata niet naar behoren op onze server geplaatst kan worden dat je of de gegevens op de een of andere manier zo moet uploaden dat deze door de beveiliging komen of toch moet kijken of je ergens anders de data wel onbeveiligd op de server kan plaatsen. Het gaat bij ons namelijk niet om dat het weerdata is maar meer om dat er met een onbeveiligd protocol ook andere data mee kan worden gestuurd. Dit heeft dus niets met de data zelf te maken, vandaar dat langzaam maar zeker FTP uitgebannen wordt.

Mochten er verder nog vragen of onduidelijkheden zijn, dan weet je ons te vinden.

Ik hoop je hiermee voldoende te hebben geïnformeerd en ik wens je nog een fijne dag toe.
