Hi

How did you decide that it was the crystal that was the problem? By using "freezer" spray?

Inerested, as my nslu2 lives in the loft of the house and this can get quite warm up there.

To see if the quartz 30 MHZ is defective , just bring (at 0,5 cm) a common solder for electronics (hot). after about 20-30 second nslu2 hangs, or crash.

Hmmmm. Very interesting, and something I will have to keep in mind if my NSLU2 starts acting up.

Hi Moretto

Question 1

Had your NSLU2 gone faulty before you used the soldering iron?

Question 2

Did the fault correct itself after the unit cooled down?

Question 3

What lead you to suspect the crystal unit?

It's just nice to have an autopsy of what you did.

regards and well done.:woohoo: :woohoo: :woohoo:

sorry but I did not understand the questions.

I solved everything chilling the 30mhz quartz, welding quartz metal on metal of usb2 port.
first my nslu2 always hangs just did little hot, now is in operative for two months without problems.

An important thing about flash memory to use with Meteohub and NSLU2 is "wear leveling". The USB sticks of major brands are known to do this quite fine (some OCZ sticks allow for definition of separate areas to be used when parts of the flash storage might fail). As I don't think, that SD memory cards are also doing this to that extent, you would have the risk of memory failures after a while.
