I am looking for a display up to max. 10'' to permanently display the weather data from the Weather34 template. If tablet then preferably without battery and controllable standby according to time periods. Can anyone recommend something or has something like this in use?
Thanks
Torsten

Hello Torsten
a few options which i have used in the past pre-pandemic so might be worth a look.
1. look for a used IPAD AIR 2 (ebay or alike there cheap now) think there 9.7 inch screen that was my perfect solution that always worked only photo below i could find of it was when i was after testing weatherflow stuff i had this weatherflow Air (ironic same name as iPad) module left over so hooked it up for indoor salon balcony data.i developed most of the themes around the ipad until my wife dropped it and cracked the screen.beauty of those used one are being cheap now and obviously is touch screen and works in full screen mode ! there probably very very cheap now as they are considered obsolete .
ipad air on the salon balcony wall showing indoor data before it was smashed .only photo i could find in the cloud

circa 2019

2. source low cost chinese (ali express) android wireless tablet screens again i had three of these they are plastic with a reasonable quality screen though beware some do not work in landscape .these are ultra cheap and come in various sizes . probably in 2017-2019 i paid less than 30 euros a unit but there plastic and cheap not durable but sufficient for project like these.
hope it is some help but being out of it for a few years prices may have changed but its simple todo providing the tablet has some for of internet access i..e wireless .sorry i dont have any photos stored of these in use
ps template is fully compatible with most tablets.
have a nice evening ...brian

Hello Brian,
ok, I'll take a look on ebay. iPad has the best quality, but unfortunately a battery that is not actually needed because it is always connected to the power supply.
best regards
Torsten

no problem that said battery on old ipad Air models are probably depleted or coming to end of life , always had mine on electric power adaptor. so battery shouldnt be of any concern if not needed .yes the quality of display for viewing is far superior than the cheaper plastic android OEM ones . position the ipad out of sunlight and its pretty much viewable from all angles and afar if your eyesight is reasonably good.

I have tried various solutions.
- An iPad mini first edition.
- A Chinese display with android tv box.

For displaying Weather34 data consider a small HDMI monitor around 7-10 inches. With proper Raspberry Pi setup and power-saving settings you can control operation times and standby easily. Tablets without batteries are rare so an HDMI monitor might be a better choice.
Regarding screens Raspberry Pi-compatible monitors are worth exploring if you want automatic wake-up. Otherwise budget tablets may need extra configuration to work in a battery-less mode

- A raspberry with Chinese touch display.
This setup should also work with a Raspberry Pi Zero 2 W + HDMI cable to the display?

Maybe it works with all Raspberry but it is no longer available.
Maybe you can try this:

I now use an iPad Air as a weather display. The screen is activated via a Homekit motion detector, which works very well.
