CWOP Being Sent Wrong Coordinates?

Hi,

Meteohub is a great product. Thank you for saving me the cost of a constantly running PC!

I'm having a problem with the coordinates that are being show when I see my station's CWOP data on Weather Underground.

I noticed today that my weather station appears on Weather Underground twice. Once because Meteohub is sending directly to Weather Underground, and again because my data is being sent to CWOP and being picked up on the APRSWXNET network which also appears on Weather Underground.

When you view the map from Weather Underground (attached) you can see the distance error between the two readings. The station on top is correct and the station below should not be there, it should be directly over the one on top.

My correct coordinates are:

Lat: N 43 ° 5 ' 41 '' ( 43.095 ° )
Lon: W 85 ° 28 ' 3 '' ( -85.468 ° )
Elevation: 878 ft

...and that is what I've entered into Meteohub.

From my CWOP packets here is what Meteohub is sending:

CW9861>APRS,TCPXX*,qAX,FIRST:@225707z4305.41N/08528.03W_270/008g008t029r000b09760h74
12/225 data packets and 0/0 duplicates; 1008/18900 bytes

But when I see my CWOP station on WU the coordinates given are:

Lat: N 43 ° 5 ' 24 '' ( 43.090 ° )
Lon: W 85 ° 28 ' 1 '' ( -85.467 ° )
Elevation: 875 ft

I'm not sure the error is occurring and if anyone has an idea I would appreciate your information and time in helping either solve this issue or helping me understand what is really going on here.

Thanks!

Hi,
I think you found a bug.

Meteohub represents position in degrees, minutes and seconds. CWOP requires coordinates in LORAN style, that means the seconds are represented in hundreds of a minute. I will adapt the code to handle this correctly with the next update.

It is just a \"few\" meters wrong, but wrong is wrong...

Thanks for your response! A great many of us appreciate your time and effort in improving Meteohub. It is something that I look forward to using for many years to come.

I did find a couple of other issues in using my unit and I will post them on the weekend.

Thanks again.

I also found out that there is a server change to take place for CWOP readings.

More info can be found here.
CWOP (CWxxxx) stations should use cwop.aprs.net
Thanks!

I will adapt to the new schema when it gets stable. CWOP is changing a lot at the moment. the \"traditional\" access method seems to work stable at the moment. However, thanks for pointing at this.

In the version 2.0 notes it says that you correct the CWOP position, but I still notice that my position appears to be wrong. Is this fixed yet or will you be waiting for a later update. Thanks.

I changed the computation to reflect LORAN style coordinates. You don't see any change in positioning?

I did verify that Meteohub's packets are including the correct coordinates.
CW9861>APRS,TCPXX*,qAX,FIRST:@225707z4305.41N/08528.03W_270/008g008t029r000b09760h74
12/225 data packets and 0/0 duplicates; 1008/18900 bytes
However, Weather underground is still showing the station south of it's correct location.

Perhaps this is because of old data packets containing the old coordinates. Let's wait 14 days or so to see if the problem clears up with new data.
