Hi,

At present I have an NSLU2 connected directly to a USB RFXCOM, and an ALIX 1D listening to the NSLU2's port 5557.

When I want to move the RFXCOM from the NSLU2 to the ALIX 1D should I power down both units before I move the connector, or can I 'hot swap' the USB from one to the other, then just change over the 'connection' setting for each copy of Meteohub?

Hot swap should do. but Meteohub might take up to 5 min until it gets synchronized. It might be faster...

As things stand I'll not be making the change over for at least a few more days.

Yesterday, for no apparent reason, the ALIX 1D shutdown. :(

I only noticed a few hours later when I found that it I couldn't access the http interface.

When I went up to where the ALIX (& NSLU2) live the ALIX 1D simply appeared to be 'off', i.e. the LEDs at the network connection were not illuminated.

The ALIX, the NSLU2 and a network switch are all powered from a UPS. There had been no local power problems, and the NSLU2 and a network switch were running as normal.

I unplugged the ALIX 1D's PSU, the plugged it back in, and it seemed to boot up just fine, and has been working fine since.

In the Meteohub based logs there is no sign of anything strange.

Are there any lower level logs I could check for possible clues of what might have happened?

e.g. Presumably if it was a sudden uncontrolled halt the system would have needed to do some integrity checks on re-start? Would that be noted anywhere?

Change of plan!
The ALIX 1D is now the 'live' system - because at just after 1800 today the NSLU2 apparently had a sudden corruption of at least part of the file system.
First I knew was that the ALIX 1D was not receiving any data from the NSLU2s port 5557.
Checking the NSLU2's http I got the "Accept licence" page.
Having accepted that I found that logging had stopped, and would not restart, and that the sensor calibrations had "disappeared".
I quickly swopped over the RFXCOM USB to the ALIX, then re-booted both devices.

The NSLU2 will boot, and I can "Inspect Data", but the system log is blank, and the meteohub log shows

At the top of the System Info page I see

Looking from a Windows PC, the Samba share is not accessible.

Looks bad.

But could be worse, at least I already had the ALIX 1D up and running as a replacement :) (albeit having had a mystery shutdown)
