Hi,

I'm very interested to install meteohub on my NSLU2 but i have a question concerning the USB stick used for the installation. I didn't found anything on this forum...

Is it possible to use an external dd ( a maxtor 320GB powerd by the usb port for example) in place of the usb stick of 4GB. The goal is to keep the basis functionality of the NSLU like file server,...

Is it necessary to modify something in the installation files ?

The slug just sees the the usb pen as storage - so would your hd.

The only problem is that images is to small use your big hd. But I can't see any reason why you should'nt be able to resize the partitions on a hd to the sizes you want - It is "just" an application running on SlugOS/BE 4.8

But if you are new to unix/linux it might be a step learning curve to get it the way you want ...

The simple way may be to still boot from a 2 or 4GB flash and then add a usb hub to the second usb port and share it between the weather station and your harddisc. You can the keep the meteohub disc original and just mount and share your harddisc. This way you will also be able to let the harddisc power down when not needed.

This is exactly what i did.
At first i had problems but using the suggested DiskImage tool (have a look in the manual for a link to their website, i attached the stand alone version) it worked fine.

1. Basically, you unzip the installation file so you have a "blablabl.dd" file
2. you connect your USB external diskdrive to your XP machine
3. run the DiskImage tool and select the *.dd file
4. make sure you select the correct physical disk
5. select "start" and wait unil ready.
6. connect this USB harddisk to your USB port on the NSLU2 closest to the LAN connector.
7.and connect your USB wetaherstation to the other USB port.
8. AND READY!!!!
