Maybe the German folks here are interesting in my experiences I made during the upgrade from the NSLU2 to a new eBox 4300.
The - now old NLSU2 - did it´s job without a problem for nearly a new year now. Never had any problems with the Linksys gadget, but the graph creation on the website and export to wswin was very slow sometimes.
I purchased a new eBox 4300 from this German website for 218 €:
HRT Informationstechnik GmbH
Following the steps in the manual upgrading from the running NSLU2 to the eBox4300 went smoothly with only one exception that took me about half an hour to find out.
The eBoy4300 detected the CF-Card always on the secondary IDE as slave.
When trying to install an error message came up that no install medium was found.
Because it looks for a disk to mount as either
hda or
hdc. Any other IDE port will fail!
After opening the cover I saw there´s a DIP-switch at the bottom of the CF-card slot allowing one to set it to secondary IDE master.
Now the CF-Card was mouted as
hdc and the installation from the USB stick went through without any trouble at all.
Restoring the backup from my old NSLU2 to the new machine also did not emerge any problems.
My first impression is this:
The response times of the eBoy 4300 are far better than with the NSLU2.
Graphs are created with nearly no delay.
Next step is to buy the Oregon RMS300 and connecting three additional Temp sensors to the meteohub.
