NSLU2 not found on network after USB in..*solved*

I have now purchased a NSLU2 and installed the 2GB version of the MeteoHub demo software on it..

This is what I did (while following your manual):

1. First I could not get the upgrade firmware to work at all.. no effect.. found some info on google, and tried again with a crossed network cable, upgraded from v2.3R24 to v2.3R63 (please note that you ref. to this on the download page, but it's not there, however I found it on the linksys site. After this I upgraded to the MeteoHub firmware 2.1.

2. Format a 2GB usbstick to fat32 (just to be sure) and copy the meteohub-v2.0-2GB.rar to it.
Put it in \"Disk 2\" usb port. and reboot the NSLU2, and a second 2GB usbstick was connected to the \"Disk 1\" usb port. and the transfer started and finished after approx 20 minutes and the NSLU2 was automatically shutdown. The \"log\" file looked like this:

stickit started.
Tue Mar 11 22:34:04 UTC 2008
accepted file:/media/sda1/meteohub-v2.0-2GB.rar
waiting for target stick ... found.
unrar and copy /media/sda1/meteohub-v2.0-2GB.rar to /dev/sdb/ ...
3870663+107 records in
3870663+107 records out
done.
shutdown

3. Now all usbsticks removed and the \"big\" stick with the system was placed in the \"Disk 2\" usb port before starting the NSLU2.
Now the problem is... I can't find it on the network anymore... :S

The NSLU seems to be booting okay, after orange and green blinking the status led turns constant green. (There are no constant green in Disk 1 or Disk 2 leds, however the usbstick itself indicate loading while booting, and afterwards blinking a little some times).
I have tried with crossed cables and through the hub also with both 192.168.1.77 and 10.0.0.10 (IP given in web interface, just before the meteohub firmware upgrade). Changed my laptop to both subnets to try to find it there. I even tried to find the NSLU2 in the router statistics, the IP scan tools and though browser calls to both ip and hostname (called it NSLU2 but also tried http://meteohub/admin.html).

Any help will be much appreciated, thanks.

Best Regards,
Martin Henriksen

This sounds a bit like my experience. I'd set a fixed IP before installing the firmware and application, then afterwards could not find meteohub.

ipscan.exe (in the downloads section) did the trick for me. It turned out that after installing the firmware & application the NSLU2 was using DHCP. Once I knew the correct IP all was well. :)

Here's a link to my thread, which contains other suggestions too.

Problem solved...

Deimoz:
2. Format a 2GB usbstick to fat32 (just to be sure) and copy the meteohub-v2.0-2GB.rar to it.

Boris:
You should take the 2.1, not the 2.0.
2.0 is not working with 2.1 firmware.

I did a format to the \"small\" usbstick and a put the meteohub-v2[1]-2GB.rar file on it. After reboot a added the \"big\" USB stick in \"Disk 1\" and waited 20 min.. The NSLU2 rebooted, removed the \"small\" usb stick and put the \"big\" in \"Disk 2\", rebooted and the NSLU showed up on the network, However it was using DHCP this time.. but this was easy to change using the webinterface now.

PS. Thanks for your suggestion also SkyeWright.

Cheers,
Martin
