Vantage Vue: how to connect

If I understand well, Vantage Vue comes with no port connector (IP or USB) to connect it to NSLU2.
What is the best price/performance approach to get a port to be connected to NSLU2 (beside buying the outrageous expensive stuff from Davis).
Thank you
Nicolas

To my knowledge, there is no less expensive nor third-party alternative to the Davis datalogger/WeatherLink interfaces.

The best price I found is on Amazon.com (100€ less than in France and Germany)

Just in case the information has not spread around yet, there has been a discovery by DeKay on wxforum that unlocks the Davis serial port on the back of the Vue (and probably other Vantage products that can use the Weatherlink datalogging cable).
Bottom line is that a Davis to USB cable can be built from easily procurable electronics, probably around $30 inc freight.

This makes the Vue even more economical.

In order to fill in missing data, recent versions of Meteohub attempt to read from the Davis logger's archival memory if there is a data gap that exceeds the hold time for live data. There is no archival memory in a home brewed connector so this function will not work and could cause problems.

Initial report.
I was given a Vantage Vue for Christmas.
Using the resources above, I assembled the required components and built a Vantage to USB adapter cable with the
Sparkfun FTDI Basic Breakout 3.3v DEV-09873
Wiring as per this diagram from
madscientistlabs:
Upon USB connection, dmesg reported:
Code: Select all
ftdi_sio 2-2:1.0: FTDI USB Serial Device converter detected
drivers/usb/serial/ftdi_sio.c: Detected FT232RL
usb 2-2: FTDI USB Serial Device converter now attached to ttyUSB0
Configuration within Meteohub was trivial using the tty device and a selection of the init command (clear initial+5minutes)
I haven't put the sensor module on the roof yet, but the Vue is recognized by Meteohub and indoor temps, humidity and barometer are being logged.
Not sure under what conditions meteohub will request data from the non-existant logger? Would be interested to recreate this situation to see what happens.
Cheers.

I have one of these non Davis serial cables that doesnt have the logger, it works great hooking it into a PC and using software but when it is plugged into my meteohub device, it doesnt work, its like it needs the logger present to work, I hope they can make a work around and just use the data coming from the Davis unit.

this guy sells the cables for like $40 US dollars , maybe someone can get them to work with a meteohub without the data logger and this is a great cost savings.
