CF card creation problem

I must be missing something obvious.

I downloaded the 4.6 image and attempted to write to my 4G CF card with Vista 64 bit (both home and pro) and tried with administrative rights and xp compatibility mode. In all cases I get an error 5. Yes, I picked the physical disk. :)

So, I tried winimage. It seems to have written all the files, my ALIX.3 still won't boot. I suspect it is an MBR issue, but I am not sure how to fix it.

PC Engines ALIX.3 v0.99h
640 KB Base Memory
261120 KB Extended Memory

01F0 Master 045A Flash Card
Phys C/H/S 8061/16/63 Log C/H/S 1007/128/63
Boot error

In the BIOS I've tried both CHS mode and LBA mode, but no luck.

I'm fresh out of XP boxes for the moment, however I have lots of linux boxes. Which command would I use to create the bootable CF card under Centos.

Many thanks in advance.

Mike

you can do with "dd" as explained in the manual at section 1.1.3 or around that.

Just and fyi for everyone - and it is sort of discussed in a few places here.

diskimage and winimage (I thing), don't behave the way we would like them to under W7 64 bit. Even running as administrator and xp compatibility mode, I could not get them to create a bootable CF 4G card.

Once I found an XP box, diskimage worked as it should (again, selecting the physical drive).

I just tested it and it now boots off the CF card.

Now, I gather I just wait for it to build the rest of the file system?

Thanks all....
