have been thinking about using a webcam with my Alix. My LAN just comprises the Alix with meteohub on board and router.(on rare occasions, ie during installation, I will bring in my laptop).

I have an old logitech webcam and tried connecting via USB to the alix. But is it at all possible to work a cam like that (does meteohub not need the drivers for the cam?).

I have seen (on other threads) that people have been using Internet Protocol cameras to good effect. Is this the best way to go? Can they work "plug n play"? Or do they need drivers installed remotely? The IP camera I last looked at, had ethernet connection - but given that the Alix is already using the only ethernet socket, how/where should/could it be installed?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

you need to check meteohubs manual getting an answer, if your Logitech cam is supported or not.

IP-Cams are already standalone computers. They are completely independent from any other PC.

I tried out the microsoft Life cam VX-3000, which is one of those listed. It worked - but the quality of the image wasnt great (difficult to cope with the brightness). I suppose I expected that.

I would be interested to know if anyone has connected a USB webcam that copes well with outdoor conditions?
