Better platform: Windows7.
You dont need a meteohub, and it is for many people more accessible.

Windows7
You are joking, are you?
Windows7 is just the worst OS you could name for the task recording weather station data on low power consumption machines we´re talking about here.
With its heavy graphical interface it is not running on these platforms at all.
No, Linux is far better than anything from Redmond, not at least because it´s Open Source.
And the Linux scripting tools beat everything MS has ever tried to copy from Thorvald´s OS.
If you want to go with Windows, there´s already a solution for it:
http://www.pc-wetterstation.de/enindex.html
So, buy an Atom driven low power consumption gadget with enough RAM like the FIT2-PC (=very expensive!!) and you will be satisfied!
Werner Krenn´s software is excellent, no doubt. And even I´m using it for exporting my long term data and let it create all the nice graphs.
But meteohub has also a lot of advantages from its Linux approach, allowing to extent it with all the smart shell scripting and other tools already there.

Aaa.. a Linux fan.
Most linux fans don't like Windows.
More than 2 years i use the meteohub software (Alix). It is a very stable enviroment with low power consumption.
But..........
When when you starting this hobby you can try several weathersoftware. Pc-wetterstation, Weather display, Virtual Weatherstation, cumulus, but NOT Meteohub.
Why?.... because it is running in a Linux enviroment. First you have to buy some hardware or install a VMware enviroment. And VMware is not for beginners!
What would i do? Buy a mini-itx and install a windows program. you can try them all without buying them.
When you think commercial, go Windows.

The differences between Meteohub & those is much more than just the operating system. Meteohub has a different aim.
