I have a fairly broad question (sorry if I missed this if its been addressed in other places).

With regard to the Meteohub / Linux software, once fully expanded on a USB stick, the software does not occupy much space...according to the Meteohub info page on my completely installed setup, I see 559 megs for system files and 75 megs for data files...total 634 megs. Obviously, an old 256mb USB stick wont work here, but a 1gb stick would work...as would a 2gb, 4gb, 8gb stick...and so on.

To help people that may just be starting out with building their system, is there a preferred capacity USB stick for the Iconnect / Meteohub system? Is someone running a Meteohub system on a 1gb USB stick going to have to worry about day to day files filling up their system that someone running a 4gb USB stick wouldnt have to worry about? Is 8gb advantageous over a 4gb stick for the Meteohub system ?

I've been playing with 4gb and 8gb USB sticks and 8 seems like it could be overkill for this application.

Answering my own question, it appears that the larger USB stick with more available area to store data, allows for reduced wear rates of the onboard flash media simply because there is more area to spread the wear over. Seems fair enough but what does that mean in a real world situation?

Boris mentions that a heavily used meteohub system, pushing lots of data and graphs could generate wear at the rate of up to 2 rounds per day. What about the other end of the extreme?

For reference, I am running a basic meteohub system that simply collects data from a WS-2080 and pushes the data to three weather sites on the internet (CWOP, Hamweather and Weather Underground). Looking at the wear indicator on my system, I am generating wear at the rate of around 0.5 rounds per week using a 4gb stick. At this current wear rate, I can expect about 26 rounds of wear over a year timeframe. If one assumes an average USB stick mortality rate of 100 rounds (which I think is reasonable reviewing data so far from the USB stick challenge topic), a lightly used meteohub system running an average quality 4gb stick could produce a life of 3.8 years before you would need to install another USB stick. Thats not bad in my opinion. Do recognize that its quite possible to get a faulty USB stick that dies within 1 or 2 rounds. It will be fun to see how closely this estimate turns out to be.

So, answering my own question, based on the above assumptions, it really depends on what you're doing. IMO, a 4gb stick is about the smallest USB device you would want and still expect to have reasonable life for simple systems. If you're planning on pushing out lots of data and graphs, it would seem you'll need something with a larger capacity AND something SLC based that could be expected to go 1000 rounds or more.

What kind of wear rates are other users generating on their systems?

New to this forum, hello to all.

I'm in the process of installing meteohub on an iConnect (got all from the US via a friend who brought it from the US to Peru). The difficulty is to get SLC memory at a reasonable price. I bought a 32GB supposingly SLC OEM sd card with a reader (on Amazon, cheaper than the few 4 and 8GB options available). But it doesn't work. Here is the question (just the opposite of the initial post):

Is the memory limited to a max. of 8GB or can it be higher? - newer devices mostly allow for up to 32 GB (and I hoped this would be the case for Meteohub as well. I reformatted and even had it partitioned, but no way ....)

I cant say if iConnect's boot loader can handle 32GB sticks, but from the Meteohub side it can be any size (>= 4GB).
