Current Cost energy monitor can't see sensor

Post by oliverb »

I have had a current cost energy monitor and additional sensor connected to my Meteohub for some time now with no problems. In the last week I added a new sensor using a Current cost development board. My current cost device has no problems seeing the new device and reading it. I connected it to my ALIX1d meteohub and it worked fine for a few days. Overnight my Meteohub stopped getting signals from my new device but continued getting signal from Curent cost Temp, s0 ch1 power, s1 ch1 power 3. All this time the current cost device was still getting readings from the sensor.

I then changed the development board to appliance sensor9 on the current cost device and this appeared on meteohub as s9 ch1 power 27 but again did not get any data from the current cost device.

I have connected the Current cost device to my PC and can see data from all 4 sensors so my current cost device is working.

Has anyone any ideas why I can't see data from the sensor on meteohub?
I have enclosed a pic of my sensor screen.

Thanks.

any out of range errors in "meteohub log"?

Can you give me remote access to your unit?

Here is abit more info. I have reset my CC128 as I was getting appliances show up that were not active although I don't think there is a problem from the CC128 end and now get the odd bit of data out of it.
Here is the data from last night.

20110611025753 data2 0
20110611032838 data2 0
20110611034424 data2 0
20110611040355 data2 0
20110611044256 data2 0

I have enclosed an image showing the CC128 sensors as they are now after the CC128 reset and Weather Data Recomputation.
The first 3 sensors temp,s0 and s1 work fine and have always worked but s2 just gets the odd bit of data. It shows 0.00 as my boiler is not running and the gas meter is not turning.

When I plug the CC128 into my PC I can see the data from s2 fine.

I have noticed data 2 is picking up random data. It is set to show around 98watts on each turn of the 1000th ring of the gas meter and the CC128 display confirms this.
Here is the data from Meteohub from the last few days.
20110611090824 data2 0
20110611112456 data2 17900
20110611140542 data2 18100
20110611142116 data2 0
20110611142842 data2 0
20110612125618 data2 0
20110612200713 data2 36400
20110612202322 data2 88800
20110612213501 data2 36300
20110612224717 data2 36100
20110612235728 data2 70200
20110613035402 data2 19500

Note I reset the CC128 a few days back so only the main and appliance 1(s1) and 2 (s2) are being picked up. 2 (s2) is my gas meter sensor and Meteohub has identified it as "s2 ch1 power 6 " for the last few days but still only gather data every now and then sometimes the wrong values. It should only show 0 or around 98.

Is anyone else using more than 1 extra sensor if so are they working OK?

Boris I have sent you a PM with my access details.
Thanks.
Brett.

The gas sensor does not report data. XML records on sensor 2 are like this:

Code: Select all

<msg><src>CC128-v0.11</src><dsb>00525</dsb><time>12:32:45</time><tmpr>21.0</tmpr><sensor>2</sensor><id>01253</id><type>1</type></msg>
Meteohub does not handle empty records like this very well, I am about to change this. I guess it should report value zero when no value given, right?
A good explanation of the XM format is given here: http://www.currentcost.com/cc128/xml.htm

Strange thing is, that some values for sensor 2 do appear in the historical records the cc128 sends from time to time, but Meteohub does not take care of these. When will your gas sensor show data, so that I can see how this looks?

Could you please forward port 5501 on your router to the Meteohub (tcp)? This will allow me to hook-up to your cc128s data stream from my rig and watch for non-zero data.

Hi my sensor s1 has reported zero values with no problem for a long time now. It is connected to a part of my house that can have no power use for many months at a time.

I will clamp a magnet to the hall effect sensor of S2 so it will output continually. As soon as I have forwarded port 5501 I will reply here.
Thanks for your help.

Hi I have forwarded that port let me know if you can't see it.
I can't make the sensor report continually but it should report zero as a value. Once I know you can see it I can trip it a few times so you can see the change in data.

For info when I first connected this sensor it worked fine for a number of days then just stopped.

Just had a quick look at port 5501

<msg><src>CC128-v0.11</src><dsb>00525</dsb><time>20:11:06</time><tmpr>22.8</tmpr><sensor>1</sensor><id>03430</id><type>1</type><ch1><watts>00363</watts></ch1></msg>

<msg><src>CC128-v0.11</src><dsb>00525</dsb><time>20:11:11</time><tmpr>22.8</tmpr><sensor>0</sensor><id>00077</id><type>1</type><ch1><watts>00583</watts></ch1></msg>
<msg><src>CC128-v0.11</src><dsb>00525</dsb><time>20:11:13</time><tmpr>22.8</tmpr><sensor>1</sensor><id>03430</id><type>1</type><ch1><watts>00374</watts></ch1></msg>
<msg><src>CC128-v0.11</src><dsb>00525</dsb><time>20:11:15</time><tmpr>22.8</tmpr><sensor>2</sensor><id>01253</id><type>1</type></msg>
<msg><src>CC128-v0.11</src><dsb>00525</dsb><time>20:11:17</time><tmpr>22.8</tmpr><sensor>0</sensor><id>00077</id><type>1</type><ch1><watts>00610</watts></ch1></msg>
<msg><src>CC128-v0.11</src><dsb>00525</dsb><time>20:11:19</time><tmpr>22.8</tmpr><sensor>1</sensor><id>03430</id><type>1</type><ch1><watts>00405</watts></ch1></msg>
<msg><src>CC128-v0.11</src><dsb>00525</dsb><time>20:11:21</time><tmpr>22.8</tmpr><sensor>2</sensor><id>01253</id><type>1</type></msg>
<msg><src>CC128-v0.11</src><dsb>00525</dsb><time>20:11:23</time><tmpr>22.8</tmpr><sensor>0</sensor><id>00077</id><type>1</type><ch1><watts>00601</watts></ch1></msg>
sensor 2 is not sending data even when I trip it so my CC128 displays 96 watts for that sensor.

The Current cost site says even a zero should be sent as "0000".

At port 5501 you see an exact copy of the data that the meteohub gets from the cc128.
I have no idea why now the cc128 does not report data for sensor 2 when it hase done inthe past, as you say.

Does the cc128 console itself show current data from the sensor or is there a more general data reception problem?

Now data is coming in...

Code: Select all

<msg><src>CC128-v0.11</src><dsb>00525</dsb><time>21:43:20</time><tmpr>23.1</tmpr><sensor>0</sensor><id>00077</id><type>1</type><ch1><watts>00823</watts></ch1></msg>

<msg><src>CC128-v0.11</src><dsb>00525</dsb><time>21:43:27</time><tmpr>23.1</tmpr><sensor>2</sensor><id>01398</id><type>1</type><ch1><watts>00000</watts></ch1></msg>
I will install an updated logger version at your site. that does better ignore historical data sets, I guess Meteohub might have picked up sometimes data from there, which might result into strange values.

Thanks for that. I found that I had removed a strap on pins 3&4 on the board. This stops the XML data for that sensor even though the CC128 keeps displaying the sensor reading.

I have soldered the strap back on and as you have seen I am now receiving data into Meteohub.

Thanks for all your help on this.

I was thinking can I use the virtual sensor on meteohub to make the sensor into a rain sensor to read directly in kWhours. Each trip of my sensor is 0.11 kWH so if I made a Virtual sensor ID of "rain1" caled "Gas_kWH" triggered by "d2" would it add each reading the same as a rain sensor?

I could then use meteoplug to convert it directly to kWHs.

I guess you think about using a rain sensor, becuse this type of sensor is able to accumulate vaules.
But data sensors can be used the same way ("incsum" sensor usage at graph definitions).
It wouldn't need a virtual sensor for that.

You seem to have answers now, but I'll just comment on this bit...

I have 2 x 3 channel sensors (i.e. 2 transmitters, each with 3 clamps). That's been working fine for over a year. I do see a small amount of apparent "pollution"[1] of data between channels but I've always assumed that was a hardware problem.

[1] i.e. if one channel is seeing a high load then the other channels on the same transmitter report a small load even if there is nothing flowing through their clamp(s) (and even if no clamp is plugged in on the other channels, so I assume it's not a proximity effect).
