Hi,
as we're in the wishes section, here's mine:
Would it make sense to have Meteohub doing a automatic backup to an attached USB-Disk/Stick? I've seen some others that have asked for something like that in the forum.
I know, the manual says 'take rsync and backup the data from the samba share', but doing a scheduled backup directly to a connected disk would be neat, wouldn't it? B)
Cheers,
Axel

Re: Automated Backup to USB Disk
Hi,
I still think an automated backup is a missing feature in meteohub.
I have a Fritz!box available, those devices bring NAS functionality. So it would be great if meteohub backs up it's data regularly to a drive that is attached to \\fritz.box\FRITZ.NAS . This could be done without the need of havin' a PC switched on to backup the meteohub data.
From meteohub point of view this could be a cron job created through meteohub web interface, right?
Cheers,
Axel

Re: Automated Backup to USB Disk
did you try the rsync based backup funtion of meteohub?
rsync allows to only copy differences instead of backing up GBs of data.

Re: Automated Backup to USB Disk
Hi,
Yes, I had a look at the rsync feature. Correct me if I missed something, but I understood, that for that backup I need to configure a PC to get the data I wanna backup up from meteohub.
What I am looking for is, that I can configure meteohub to push a backup of my data (if differential even better) to a network drive. This could then automatically create a - let's say daily or weekly - backup even if the my PC is switched off for a while (when I'm away on vacation). And in this scenario the backup would go onto a USB drive that is attached to my fritzbox and reachable through \\fritz.box\friz.nas\meteobackup in my local network... without havin my PC switched on: GreenIT
If a differential backup is a difficult thing to implement, I'd go for a backup like the one thats created in the meteohub maintenance page. So... regularly crete one of those and copy it to a share in local network. The top solution would then be an adjustable retention peroid to purge older backups.
Does this make sense? Or do I miss something obvious?
By now this is important stuff for me, because my whole meteohub installation blew up twice alreday due to a faulty memory card (yes, yes, the cheap ones... I learned this the hard way). Unfortunately my backup was not really 'fresh', so I lost data
Cheers,
Axel

Re: Automated Backup to USB Disk
It would be great to put a USB jump drive to Meteohub Sheevaplug and have automatic data logging there as back up
