Modified rain gauge with new style calibration...

Post by skyewright »

I've just arranged a 171mm diameter funnel over my WMR928 rain gauge, so I need to apply a factor of 0.342 to received rain values.

When I came to apply the factor, I noticed that the new scheme allows for calibration of 2 aspects of the rain gauge data - \"Total Fall [mm/qm]\" and \"Rate [mm/h]\".

Am I correct in assuming that I need to apply my factor to both of these aspects?

PS. What is the \"qm\" in \"mm/qm\"?

yes, you are right.
As the funnel has an impact on total rain and rain rate, both units have to be applied to the factor. So you need two definitions here.

Forget about the qm. It stands for square meters, but it is not interesting what area you have when measuring total rain. It should just be \"mm\" and will be changed to \"mm\" with the next update.

Thanks for the reply. That all makes sense.

Unfortunately 2.3d seems to have knocked out the effect of calibration - see my posts on the 2.3d Announcement thread...

I hope you manage to sort it out before we get some rain. :)
