Connecting with WLAN on Alix.3D3

Post by sierra »

Hello everybody!

I'm new in this forum and this is my first message. And I'm also new in the world of Meteohub, so please forgive me if I pose very basic questions... :)

I have just installed a brand new Davis Vantage Vue station with WeatherLink Serial in the house of a relative (old enough to ignore almost all on computers and modern technology), 250 km away from my home.

As my intention is to connect the station to the Internet and upload data to weather servers (Weather underground and the Spanish site Meteoclimatic) I considered a Meteohub ready system as the best and simpler option for this purpose. I have purchased in Varia-Store, an Alix.3D3 with VGA, WLAN and pre-installed Meteohub software. I chose a WLAN system because the station console does not receive signal from the station in the room where the router is located (therefore I need that Meteohub connects wireless with the router)

In my first attempt for connecting meteohub I could neither see it in the router nor accesing it from Internet :( Back at home I read again the Setup Guide in the Meteohub page and I realized that I tried to connect only with WLAN, and that in the first connection I must do it with the LAN connection (the network cable) Is this correct?

What I'm going to do now is:

1- Disconnect Meteohub from the Davis console
2- Connect Meteohub (alone) to the router with the network cable
3- Access meteohub (hopefully) and start its configuration.
4- Configure meteohub for WLAN operation
5- Disconnect it from the router (remove the network cable)
6- Check if the WLAN is working and I can still access Meteohub from the Internet
7- Take the meteohub to the console's room and re-connect the station through the serial port
8- Configure the station in Meteohub... and start working...

Is this procedure correct?

and if the answer is yes... What should I do for setting up Meteohub in WLAN mode (step 4)?

I would deeply appreciate your help

thanks

when having done the WLAN config, unplug the ethernet cable and do a reboot.
when WLAN does not succeed, you can reboot again with LAN cable attached and you are back to wired mode.

Greetings,
I too am in the early stages of building and working with meteohub. I have added a wireless card to, what seems to be, a working alix 3d3 meteohub. The card is Compex WLM series MiniPCI model wlm54agp23. Meteohub recognizes the device and I am able to configure it for wireless using the steps outlined by sierra above. It does not connect and does not seem to recognize my wpa2 network (not in the drop down list). There does not seem to be anything in the 3d3 bios that needs to be set, unless it is to identify the OS as plug & play(?). Antenna is firmly attached to the main connection. From what I can tell, and I am a beginning linux user, the driver, either madwifi or the more recent ath5k, should be compiled in the 2.6.25 > kernal.
Attached is zipped system log file.
Any suggestions for this amatuer?
Thanks, danke
