No recompute or upload, graph errors after update.

Post by samikki »

Few days ago I updated my Meteohub. After that, the meteohub stopped ftp uploads and started rebooting every few hours.

When trying to see what's wrong, I noticed Meteohub maintenance interface told about another update (4.9h) so I installed it.

Now the Meteohub has stopped constant rebooting, but there are multiple problems:

- Ftp uploads still don't work

- Graphs give error messages when trying to display them, for example:
"/tmp/meteobTlSH2", line 32: warning: Skipping data file with no valid points
Error open th3-min10: No such file or directory
Error open th3-min10: No such file or directory
- Weather data recomputation does not start. It shows:
Process
Weather Data Recomputation: waiting
...and recomputation never starts (even after waiting for a day).

Log files don't seem to contain anything unusual.

I don't know how to fix this. The graph error messages make me worry that constant rebooting might have corrupted data files. There's many years' worth of data...

Everything worked fine before the updates. I am running Meteohub on NSLU2 and my weather station is WMR-100.

Help??

On NSLU2 worn out USB sticks are the most common root cause of problems. Often this gets apparent, when a new update is installed which brings a couple MB of new data and therefore puts additional stress to the storage and makes it fail. But when this happens the stick already was in limbo.

Can you reach Meteohubs pc network folder "/public/weather"? If so, the subfolders "20xxyy" do contain the raw data of each month. When you transfer these to your PC you can setup a new stick without loosing your old weather data.

Hi again and thanks for the reply!

Seems that I got to get a new stick and start the moving operation.

However, I have had a stick fail before - then I was able to see error messages about data read errors & other errors in the logs. Now logs don't contain anything unordinary as far as I can see. Meteohub is functioning quite fine apart from graph and recompute problems, for example it is updating Wunderground fine. Isn't that a bit weird?

Also, I've been trying to remember what actually happened when I did the updates. I think it went like this:

1. I did update check after a longish time and noticed that there is a new version. I ran update.
2. When the system came back up, I noticed some errors about disk full.
3. I noticed that the system partition was 100% full.
4. I decided to reboot and see if that would clear temp files and such to make more room to system partition. It did, usage went back to about 50% full.
5. I set up automatic reboots once a month so that disk full wouldn't happen again.
6. I noticed that ftp uploads had stopped working. I thought it was because of meteohub recomputing after system update. Decided to let it recompute for a while.
7. Next day I noticed that the ftp uploads still didn't work. Went to see what's wrong and noticed that meteohub had rebooted just couple of hours ago. It seemed that it rebooted every few hours.
8. I thought that maybe there is a bug with monthly reboots function and turned it off.
9. Did update check to see if there would be a new fix. There was another update (4.9h) and I updated.
10. After updating I set up monthly reboots on again, and it seemed to function as it should.
11. But now meteohub wouldn't recompute any more. I also noticed the graph errors.

Before starting rather big operation of setting up a new stick from scratch, I'd like to be sure that there isn't anything else that could be wrong and solved more easily than starting anew...

What do you think?

Steps 2 and 3 indicate that the usb storage has failed and data partition has not been mounted.
Instead of that data was written to mount point on system partition, which makes this to overflow.
May be this is some kind of inheritance from the first stick failure, when you copied disk contents over to new stick.
Hard to say from here...

NSLU2s are very old system that tend to get a bit flaky in many dimensions. I had units that started to
have trouble with whatever USB stick I did insert.
