DC01 stops uploading data on wifi, fine on wired connection

Post by richard_f »

I recently purchased a Weatherhub4 from Ambient Weather to upload data from my Davis Vantage Pro 2 station to Wunderground.com. I had no trouble configuring it and getting it to upload with the unit cabled directly to my router. It ran flawlessly for a day, then I followed the instructions to use the included d-link USB adapter to put it on my wifi network. That also went fine, except I found that I had to broadcast the SSID for it to work. Even with the SSID set in the config it would stop transmitting if I hid the SSID at the router. Anyway, after a couple of hours it stopped uploading to wunderground.com and I found these errors in the logs:

2012.08.04 03:27:11 meteohub: weathernet: No data upload to weather networks as sensor selected on weather network page for outdoor temp, outdoor humidity or outdoor dewpoint is not providing recent data.:

I double checked the network config, the sensor config and the weather networks config and it all looked fine. I went back to the wired connection and it ran fine for 5 days. I gave it one more try on wifi, got the same error and no upload, and am now back on wired and working fine. I really don't think there's an error in the configuration because it works fine when the unit is cabled to the router. When it's on wifi it's definitely still connected to the network - I have no trouble finding the IP and using a browser to remote into the device. I will add a few more screenshots in a reply to this post since the limit is three.

Any help or suggestions would be much appreciated. While I can just continue to run the unit wired it's taking the last open port on my router and I would really like to be able to move it around without running cat6 or buying a powerline adapter for the unit.

Thanks.

Additional Screen shots. Please let me know if there's any further data or more screen images that would help in the troubleshooting process.

I may have solved the problem. After seeing this thread:

viewtopic.php?f=52&t=8980

I put a USB 2.0 hub between the DC01 and the Vantage Pro 2 console. Ambient Weather includes a USB hub with the DC01 and the d-link wifi adapter. I didn't use it originally because the documentation says that the Vantage Pro 2 is 2.0 compliant and because it worked fine with the unit hard cabled to the router. So after adding the hub to the config I reset the DC01 to use the wifi connection and rebooted and it's been running without an error for 2 hours. I won't declare victory until I get 24 hours error free, but it's a promising start. I have no idea why being on a wired connection would avoid the problem - a driver conflict perhaps.

It still bugs me that I have to broadcast my SSID for the unit to connect. I'm running WPA2 with MAC address filtering, so I'll do it if I have to but it's better security wise not to broadcast it. Does anyone know a workaround for this?

Thanks

Update:
It's been running error free for two days, so it was the USB driver issue. It's just really strange that it only causes a problem when the unit is connected by Wifi.
