Multiple stations connected to meteohub?

Post by bcoulter »

Hi,

We've been using a WMR200 for some time (version 4.9h software on a SheevaPlug), but are finding the Oregon to be a little undependable (the sensors keep dying or seizing etc).
It looks like we are going to get a Davis system, but unfortunately there does not seem to be a floating thermometer available for Davis, so would need to have two stations connected to the Hub at once.

I'd just like to make sure it's possible to connect and record a Davis and Oregon station at the same time. Having searched the forum, it seems software version 4.6 and above can support this, but then after looking at the user manual it says 'it depends on licence type'.
How can I know if my licence supports this?

Thank you!

Meteohub supports multiple stations:
admin wrote:hi, you can directly go to 4.6m. 4.6n is experimental, so I wouldn't do that for now, because you will have to setup your weather station and sensor setting when coming from 3.3 anyway (you now have multiple stations support). When 4.6m works fine, you might decide to go to the latest release.
"admin" is the developer of meteohub.

If you are able to connect more than one station to the sheeva, you need only one meteohub licence.

Ah, would there be trouble with using a usb hub on the sheeva?

(by the way, it will be a Davis Vantage Vue, if that makes any difference!)

Ah, Now i understand there's a little more to it than just attaching a usb hub.

So if I understand, the Davis only gives me a serial output, which can be converted to USB serial using a 'WeatherLink data logger'...(I've seen i could hack together one using an Arduino / FTDI breakout....but don't really want to pursue that avenue if its avoidable!)

So now I wonder, can i possibly have the Davis being read on USB serial and the Oregon read on USB HID, while only having one USB port on the sheeva (dev/ttyUSB0), by using a usb hub?

nothing is easy!

I don't know, if it helps, but I'm currently running a TFA Nexus connected as USB HID and an ELV WDE1 connected as USB serial (/dev/ttyUSB0).
Both weather stations are connected to a powered (the WDE1 is powered from USB and the Sheeva power is weak) USB2 hub and the hub to the Sheeva plug.

Oh! that's very hopeful! Thank you!
Best I wait for a confirmation from Admin before I go and spend a fortune on the Davis system though!

USB hubs can be used to add more stations.

USB serial coupled weather stations can be addressed via enumerated "/dev/ttyUSBx" devices or (preferred) by device specifiers like "/dev/ttyMHxyz" where xyz does reference the physical USB port used.

USB HID coupled devices can only be used one of each kind, as Meteohub addresses these via USB product and vendor IDs which runs into trouble when more of one such devices is connected. When I remember correctly Meteohub does prevent definning more than one station on weather station page.

I hope this sheds a bit more light on the topic. As far as I know, Meteohub is still the only weather station software allowing to support multiple weather stations at a time and allowing to generate combined graphs on all that :D

Ah, that's great - thank you! I'll order the Davis now and report back on how is all works!
