SOLVED : Meteobridge & 0% radio on a VantagePro 2

Post by Medor »

I now have Meteobridge 1.6 on my TP-LINK TL-MR3020. Meteobridge used to work fine (except it cannot display the 2nd soil humidity sensor, but that's another story).

I have recently repositionned the station slightly farther away, and it still works fine with the console and with Davi's WeatherLink Windows software.

But, as soon as I plug the console into the MR3020, the radio signal shown on the console slowly drops down, until all radio comm between the console and the station is lost (and dashes are displayed on the console where outside temp etc is displayed).
If I unplug the console from the MR3020, the radio signal very slowly comes back up to normal levels (70%+) and the console shows outside values again.

Suggestions ?

Did you put a (powered) usb hub between the console and the TP-Link device?
Is the console powered on batteries only?
I tested without the hub and the console did weird things.

No, it's a straight USB cable.

No, it's on the mains power supply (actually on an UPS, just like the TP-Link).

When I read about "davis vantage console lost contact" it mostly gives the usb cable as reason.
wx forum wrote: It was the data connection (the actual physical wire/connection from the console, out the data logger and) through the DB9/USB adapter to the USB port on my computer that was somehow the problem. RF Interference or attenuation,"
The cable in combination with the router could function as an antenna and thereby giving a stronger (but errornous signal) so that the console can not find its sensors anymore.
So why not test with a different cable and with a usb hub in between?

That it takes time (15 mins at least) is because the console enters sleep mode when it lost all connections.

I first tried to insert a powered USB hub between the TP-Link and the console : this somewhat mitigated the signal loss, but after a while the console would still lose the connection.
I then did what I should have tried first : I took a 1,5m USB cable (with a ferrite thingy at its end) and repositioned the station as far from any equipment as I could =>
Problem solved ! I now have a constant 99% radio signal between the console and the station, without the powered hub..
