meteobridge not updating Davis Weatherlink

Post by SANdood »

I'm not sure if this is caused by an error condition or not, but I noticed that Davis Weatherlink (www.weatherlink.com) was not being updated by my one of my two MeteoBridges, and the last transmission roughly aligned with when I had connected Virtual Weather Station to the new Virtual Vantage port over the weekend. Rebooting didn't solve the problem, but when I stopped VWS.exe, reports began being received/reported by weatherlink.com

(I have 1-minute updates scheduled for my Vantage Pro2 - "IP (WL upload 1 min)")

Can anyone else verify that WL updates actually do work whilst using VWS.exe connected to the Virtual Vantage?

Thanks!

The "1-minute updates scheduled for my Vantage Pro2" in Meteobridge are no solution in this case.

As Metobridge only listens to the trafic when allowing another weatherprogram to use the vantage IP, you should set the VWS program to let the WLIP do its job every minute.
If VWS keeps the WLIP occupied there is nothing Meteobridge can do.

At least it worked that way when I was testing it.

As I don't have a WLIP logger to test with, I cannot rule out that the following happens,
when a PC program is using the Vantage pass-through function on a Meteobridge connected to a WLIP data logger.

1) PC program reads data from Vantage WLIP logger through Meteobridge
2) PC program does disconnect from Meteobridge to allow the WLIP logger to send data to weather link
3) Meteobridge detects that PC had disconnected and immediately takes over control of the WLIP logger
4) As Meteobridge has taken over control it does not disconnect from the WLIP logger but keeps sending commands to it
5) After a while the PC program steps in again and Meteobridge steps out and the PC program is taking over control
As a result there is no rest for the WLIP logger to send data to weatherlink.

I think when Meteobridge is configured to give the WLIP logger a rest every few minutes, it should also give a rest to the WLIP
logger when the PC program disconnects. But I have not been able to test this.

@Wim: Sounds like you tested this scenario. Which PC software did you use to test this with?

I had made available the WLIP for a few hours and tested the whole bunch of programs. The error I made was that I assumed the VWS can not free the WLIP as I could not find it. And it was not important. As Cumulus, WD and some others (MB / MH also) are decent enough to free the WLIP I think the others did not do it. And most of the time the uploading to Weatherlink.com continued OK.

At the moment WLIP => Meteobridge => Meteohub
The WLIP still uploads every 5 minutes to Weatherlink.com. http://www.weatherlink.com/user/wvdkuil ... &headers=1
Meteohub uploads its data to http://www.weerstation-leuven.be/weathe ... p=10&wp=MH
Meteobridge uploads its data also correctly to http://www.wiri.be/weather2/index.php

With the MB/MH combination the Meteobridge does not grabs the WLIP when MH disconnects every 5 minutes. And as i remeber correctly neither with MB => WD and MB => Cumulus.

The thing is, the WL uploads work fine with VWS.exe directly connecting to the WLIP port. But if I insert Meteobridge in the middle - with the same VWS polling frequency (2.5 seconds) and everything, WLIP stops updated WeatherLink.

Admittedly, I haven't tried it with a longer polling frequency.
