Unable to configure meteobridge

Post by ngiovas »

I recently posted about having issues updating the firmware on a new TL-WR703N I had purchased. I discovered that it had a newer firmware that would not allow a refresh and was not compatible with meteobridge.

I returned that device and bought another that had an older version of firmware. I was able to flash the metrobridge firmware that I downloaded from the site. It tells me that everything was successful. By default LAN was disabled and I was unable to get it to connect to the internet. I tried downloading the online configuration file and loading it via USB with no success.

I am able to manually set the IP and find it on my router, but nothing happens when I try to log in to that IP address. If I reset the router and connect directly via a network cable, It pops up a DD-WRT login screen, not meteobridge. Once I change the address from 192.168.1.1, I can see it on the router but I can no longer connect.

1. How do I know if the firmware loaded correctly? It appears to just be dd-wrt, not meteobridge.
2. Can I manually configure the router to connect to meteobridge and load the correct screens?

It doesn't seem that it should be this complicated, but I'm not having much luck.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

ok, it appears that even though the firmware update is telling me it completed successfully, all it is doing is resetting the router. The firmware doesn't change. I even tried using a revert file to take it back to the Chinese firmware. It tells me it was successful, but it is the same firmware.

So problem 1 is to figure out why it won't allow me to flash the firmware.

Re: Unable to configure meteobridge (SOLVED)

I just wanted to post an update just in case anyone else has the same issues.

I previously had purchased a TL-WR703n router not knowing that the newest version (1.7) would block any non factory firmware files from loading. Fortunately, I was able to return it and found another one that the seller stated would be updatable. To help me out, he loaded an English firmware instead of the default Chinese firmware. That's where I was running into the issue. He had loaded DD-WRT, not Openwrt. DD-WRT was not allowing the other firmware versions to load (including Meteobridge).

I ended up putting the router in failsafe mode (it was a bit tricky because DD-WRT disables the default LEDs, so I couldn't see the blinking). I was then able to telnet into the device, transfer the new firmware and install it.

One reboot and everything was up and running. Because of the compact size of the WR703n, I was able to attach it to the back of my weather display in the kitchen and no longer have to keep everything next to the computer. Even though it started off with a few delays, I really am glad I came across Meteohub.

Thanks for sharing the experience around the WR703N. We don't have much users around on this platform,
as beside its really appealing minimal form factor it needs to be grey imported to US and EU because
of missing formal certifications. Therefore, this report really helps the few who are going that route.

As it might be of interest, I will post about online Meteobridge devices (in percent).
