RFXCOM test 2: better! Receives up to 350 metres.

Hej everybody,

I took the Oregon Scientific main unit into the country and had excelent results. Range was up to 300 m (at least) without a line of sight! Excellent!

Today I took the RFXCOM with me (80002), I have a USB car adapter for my Creative MP3 player which also functions with the RFXCOM USB module. The green LED on the big first signal is to let you know, you have power (when you attach it to the USB power supply) after that every signal means it detects a signal from a sensor. This is into the country and I know the farmer from the farm nearby. He has no OS. Other farms are really too far away.

RFXCOM works like the OREGON Scientific 928/968 console when it comes to range; it reaches about the same distance. All the sensors from the OS 928/968 kit perform clearly better than the add on sensors from WMR-100/200. At first, I thought the solar powered ones where better than the WMR-918 barothermohygro sensor, but this one actually performs on par.

It has been mentioned before, but placing the transmitter a few meters higher (even 2 m or so) gives a MUCH better performance. At first I put all sensors in aplastic bag on the ground and I reached abut half the distance. Virtually no shrubs where in between so..

As the 918 BArohygotemp sensor costs only 20 dollar at Ambient Weather, I will buy a couple of these when a friend of mine is going to States again (november) and get them for me here in The Netherlands. It is way way cheaper than buyingit over here (without a suitcase to transport it, the 968 kit + UV and 800/810 sensor it costed me only 190 euro's in total...).

Tested it again with the UV sensor (128). This one reches at least 300 m in a line of sight. Pretty good.

Again, I tested the 810. One time at 2 m height (as was the RFXCOm receiver) and then kept the receiver low. Both a t 250 m. With the reciever low. the signal was (as can be expected) lost. At 1 m height, signal was found again.

Pretty happy, final test will be when I install everything (probably next week or the week after next week).

weather station based on the meteohub system (which seems to be a really great system)! I have ordered the rtcxom receiver and now I am trying to acquire the Oregon sensors. The only tweo Baro sensor are the BTHR918/918N and 968. They do not seem to be sold in Germany (or other European countries); US shops (including amazon) do sell them but do not ship to Europe. It would be nice if someone could give me an hint where I can purchase such a device who is willing to ship it to Germany.

Well, that is going to be a problem, as these stations have been phased out by oregon. echtshop.de used to have them, but I think they are no longer available through them.
