Serial-USB converter needs USB hub?

Post by Clément »

Hello,

Is a USB hub needed while using a Serial to USB converter with a Davis Datalogger?

I have this http://www.digitus.info/fr/produits/acc ... -da-70156/ converter.

Thank you.

May be not as it seems to be one with a FT232RL.

My current theory is that FTDI based RS232-USB converters don't need
the hub as my Meteosticks (also having a FTDI-based chip FT232RL) are
known not to need one. On the other side I had a situation with
a home-brew datalogger that also uses a FTDI-chip but did need the hub
to work reliable. Sorry, this all is confusing.

My recommendation is to always use the hub in order not to firefight
unexpected USB disconnects later on that might occur on occasion.

Ok thank you.

For now it seems pretty stable.
Of course I have a USB hub by the hand ;)
