net work configuration problems

I have just purchased a M.B. unit and am having problems getting it to link to my wireless lan it connects ok cabled but it wont by wireless is there any one here who can help with the set up has i have followed the instructions on the M.B. site with no luck it seems has if the WiFi is not working on the unit .

Did you select correct SSID, encryption method and pass phrase?

yes they are all correct the problem is how do i configure the WIFI has i need cable connection to start and that when i have the problems if i click save and apply i lose all connections and if i unplug the cable after i input the wifi details i still loose connection till i plug the cable back in.can any one on here help has i can only think i am doing something wrong. what is the exact way of doing this has every way i have tried has not worked could a member ex-plane what i need to do thanks
