MR Pro - wiped data on reboot

Post by Tiktok »

I have had my MB Pro running without problem now since late December and today, I decided to reboot to update the software as it was running on a January version. After reboot, the database has completely disappeared and the PC Share folder is now empty - all standard folders and custom template files I had in there have gone.

Is there anything you can suggest as to why it has done that?

I have to say I am not impressed!

Exactly the same problemat one of my users. The total data folder empty. So no WD-live filos (clientraw) upload either
Error on live data tab: Cannot open local file /tmp/mnt/data/export/clientraw.txt

Replacing the three folders from a backup did not result in any improvement.
The vendor of the MB-pro looked into his device and saw more files missing.

This user leans heavy on its WD-Live page so he is very angry, to say the least.

WOW!

That is NOT GOOD! :(

We are using the MBP as a backup uploader to our dedicated weather computer running LWC. The more I use this device, the less I feel I can ever trust it to run our entire show. Especially if it has the potential to totally loose all of its historical data with no way of getting it back!

Reading this, coupled with my own issues with the device is starting to make me question whether the MBP is indeed the viable alternative to a dedicated weather computer I had hoped it would be.

My unit appears to have a defective Barometer, so I am in the process of trying to arrange a defective exchange to confirm what I am 99% sure is the case. If a replacement proves just as unreliable at reporting our current pressure at our altitude, then I need to see if hooking the MBP up to our second VP2 console via a USB data logger will allow the VP2 console's pressure data to be used by the MBP instead of its internal Baro and uploaded to the various weather sites and Twitter.

If that is not possible, then I am going to have to think hard about whether it makes sense to keep the product or return it for a refund. Knowing now that the device is capable of loosing all of its internal data without warning is certainly not adding any points into the KEEP column! ;)

First of all, sorry for that. That you did lose database and all files on the USB store is something I can
hardly explain. When unit starts it checks if it is a new USB storage and formats it. So in theory this might
have been triggered somehow, but it is not very likely, because the media was already formatted fine.
It could have been a temporarily USB storage fault during boot which triggered this.
I will bring in some extra checks here to rule this out for the future.
Another option could be that the USB storage did fail, but as I understand you apart from
having lost the previous data the unit works fine again? Or not?

It appeared to be working OK except for not finding templates but now I have had some time today to look closer I think something has broken.

1, The system was continually restarting the meteostick and logger every 4 or 5 minutes which was giving gaps in the stored data while the system synchronised with the Vantage Pro signal again.
2, Data #12 was no longer displayed on the live data tab (this used to show the amount of internal storage used).
3, Despite trying everything I can think of, I could not get templates to work - the system did not recognise that they were there even after I had recreated the folders.

I decided to reboot the system again to see if it would fix (1) above. After it rebooted, all stored history for the last couple of days had disappeared and, once again, the share folder was completely empty - no folders or template files.

In summary, sadly it is not really useable any more - I guess the internal usb has failed in some strange way.
