Local Settings with Vantage Pro2 & WeatherLinkIP

Post by BertL »

I am using a Davis Vantage Pro2 with WeatherLinkIP. I have fully specified all parameters in the Davis Console and calibrated pressure and have confirmed what the WeatherLinkIP is providing is accurate.

In Meteobridge, I've specified my latitude and longitude, and other basic parameters. I assume I should NOT input any offsets or corrections in Meteobridge Local Settings because that would cause Meteobridge to change my already accurate data. I ask because of the specific note in the manual saying station altitude is very important. Should I still input station altitude into Meteobridge in my situation with calibrated data already being provided?

Thank you.

Meteobridge and VP2 console reads the data direct from the ISS and/or through the Logger, calibrations applied to the console apply to the console data only, Meteobridge data requires to be calibrated separately. You may have been thinking the MB reads/reports the data from the console but this is not the case.

Thanks for the clarification. That is exactly what I wanted to know.

I have done some more investigation, as duplicating offsets in Meteobridge Local Settings were not working. I appreciate the previous reply to help me, but until hopefully Boris (@admin) weighs-in how Meteobridge works specifically with a calibrated Davis Console & WeatherLinkIP as to if offsets need to also be specified in Meteobridge Local Settings, I'm going to:
  • Specify my altitude in Meteobridge Station Altitude
  • Not specify any other Meteobridge Local Settings (Wind Direction Adder, Pressure Correction, Temperature Offset, Indoor Temperature Offset), as I have already done those on my Davis Console which is attached to the WeatherLinkIP that Meteobridge is using. It very much appears changes to the Davis Console effect what goes to WeatherLinkIP and on to Meteobridge -- that perhaps isn't the case with other weather stations.
Here is what I tried that led me to this approach:
  • I found in Davis and CWOP calibration documentation that the Davis Console itself actually measures Pressure, Internal Temp, and Internal Humidity; therefore IMHO changes to the console parameters for these impacts data going to the WeatherLinkIP. Other external data (External Temp, Rain, Wind, etc) comes from the ISS.
  • I next displayed Meteobridge Live Data, while it was connected to my WeatherLinkIP. As I changed Pressure, Internal Temp or even External Temp on the Davis Console, Meteobridge Live data changed to match -- I believe indicating that the calibration I previously performed on my Davis Console is in-fact flowing through the WeatherLinkIP as input to Meteobridge. When I change Pressure on the Davis Console, it matches Meteobridge Live data "Indoor Seapress", but "Indoor Press" does not seem to change with the small differences I was testing with.
  • I tried specifying my altitude (only 230') to Meteobridge Station Altitude. I see no difference in either Meteobridge Live Data pressure reading when I have this specified or not in Meteobridge Local Settings. Perhaps that is because I'm as close to sea level as I am, IDK. (Station Altitude is also set in the Davis Console).
  • If I add Meteobridge Pressure Correction to match what I have also done on my Davis Console (while still having specified Meteobridge Station Altitude), Meteobridge Live Data for Indoor Seapress changes -- no longer matching my calibrated data to a national airport weather station 4 miles away, so I know it's then wrong.

While I've not received any further clarification on my upthread assumptions from a Meteobridge-perspective, in case it helps someone else in the future: My station reporting has been going on for several days now to WU, PWS and CWOP. All three sites remain happy with the data being received from my Davis ISS->Console->WeatherLinkIP->Meteobridge-Weather Network, and represent my location, elevation, and data correctly. With my hardware setup, it seems to confirm there is no need to duplicate or specify any local settings in Meteobridge when you've already done it first via your Davis Console.
