MB Pro Red compatibility with Davis wireless extender 7627

Post by DouglasW »

Hello everyone, I am a new and very satisfied Meteobridge Pro Red user. I am also a keen windsurfer and have mounted a Davis Vantage Vue ISS on a small tidal island, just offshore, where it catches the clear wind.

The ISS is 400m away from my Meteobridge Pro Red and remarkably the MBPR picks up the signal direct from the ISS in good weather at an average signal of about -90dBm. This is presumably because it is a remote area, with a low background noise of only -141dBm. However, if it rains heavily I lose the signal so I have installed a Davis wireless extender 7627. Now my Vantage Vue console picks up an average signal at -65dBm and heavy rain does not break transmission.

At the moment my Vantage Vue console retransmits the signal and the MBPR picks that up. However, I would like to take the console (battery power) down to the beach during windsurfing sessions, so I would like the MBPR to pick up the signal direct from the wireless extender. Is this possible? My MBPR is running Meteobridge 3.3 (Jul 4 2017, build 11271)

Many thanks in anticipation for your advice.

Douglas

Well I seem to have answered my own question! Unlike the Davis console that needs to be set up for both ISS ID (1,2 etc.) AND extender ID (A, B etc.) the Meteobridge Pro Red just needs the ISS ID and is smart enough to lock onto the stronger signal rebroadcast by the extender. Great! It works perfectly.

Yes, it is as you describe. You don't have to specify repeater IDs on Meteobridge side, all data is accepted.
