Longitude and Latitude data different on CWOP

Post by garys »

The Long/Lat information transmitted to the Citizen Weather Observer Program (CWOP) is different than what I have loaded into Meteobridge.

I use this URL http://www.wxqa.com/search.htm to confirm the data/location being sent.

The long/lat information is near my station address but south and east of the long/lat loaded.

The information is entered in the location long/lat is decimal format xx.xxxxx and -yy.yyyyy

The data found from http://www.findu.com/cgi-bin/raw.cgi?ca ... -Call-Sign

I guess it could be they are mapping the location incorrectly, but given the numbers in the raw datafile are different causes me concern.

Is there a way to convert the decimal format of long/lat loaded to the format sent to CWOP?

Yes Latitude/Longitude can be different due to different datum's, formats etc as the same point on earth can have different latitude/longitude values dependent primarily on the datum.

So first things first, how far is the difference you are observing? Do you know the datum CWOP uses. What coordinate datum have you used in Meteobridge?
