rsync help

Post by cbhiii »

Hi all,

I'm trying to use rsync with my Mac to backup Meteohub. The command is not working for me. Is anyone else using this method? What should my command format look like? How is Meteohub given the password or don't I need to worry about that?

Thanks for any help and your time.

I'm using cwrsync on a Windows machine so your mileage may vary, but here are my commands (they're contained in a batch file, which is essentially equivalent to a shell script on a Mac or Linux box):

Code: Select all

rsync.exe -uav rsync://root@Thunderbird/data mydata
rsync.exe -uav rsync://root@Thunderbird/config myconfig
Where "Thunderbird" is the name of my Meteohub on the local network (you can probably substitute the IP address for this, assuming you're using a static IP.) "mydata" and "myconfig" specify the local folder that the backup is stored in (it's a relative path, and the backups are thus contained in subfolders within the folder containing of the shell script and the rsync executable.)
[*]
I use Scheduled Events (equivalent to cron) to run the script once per day, and it checks the remote files relative to the local files and updates any that have changed (that's specified by the -uav flags.)
[*]
Make sure that the local backup folders already exist and that they are set to the proper privileges for the rsync command to write and append data within them.

Thanks for your response. I'm using a Mac so it will operate like a Linux machine mostly. I will try to modify them to fit my system. Thanks again.
