Suggestion: auto reboot if connection fails

Post by MeteoSevilla »

Hi,

I have verified that occasionally (every few weeks) the connection between NSLU2 and USB Davis VP2 is lost. Alarm log in Meteohub recorded this:

2008.12.06 23:46:37 meteohub: sensorfail: Sensor "rain0 (Lluvia Rain) wind0 (Viento Wind) thb0 (Interior Indoor) th0 (Exterior Outdoor) " failed
2008.12.06 23:46:37 meteohub: datalog: Logging of Weather Data for more than 30 minutes without new data

I think it would be interesting to have an option to auto reboot the system when Meteohub detects a sensor failure.

What do you think about?

Regards,
Victor

I was having a similar problem for a long time with my VP2 (even before I had a Meteohub and was plugging it into my PC!)

I'm going to guess you're using the USB version of the datalogger? If so, have a look at this thread. It appears to be due to a poor case design by the Davis team, putting the datalogger USB jack far too close to the power input when they did not need to be next to one another.

Simply providing better separation between my USB and power cables did wonders for my connection stability to the point that I've only noticed it drop once in the past two months. A ferrite core might improve that statistic further, but since my system is now working quite well I haven't bothered to track one down yet.

Boris implemented a protocol in the newer versions of Meteohub (after about v2.8 or so?) that tries to reset the connection to the datalogger if it detects a failure such as that, but it sometimes takes a while for the daemon to notice.

I would also recommend you set up the Meteohub to automatically restart on a daily basis (in the Maintenance tab).
