Where to get eboxes and fit-PC Slim?

Post by admin »

As the little boxes through various channels, we might collect resources here, where to get them. Please also post your comments/recommendations when you received an unit.

To start with...
I got my eboxes from norhtec.com. Payment is done via credit card. shipping took about a week. I received two packages of various units, no problems. Please tell them what kind of power adapter you need, they have different connectors to match European/GB/US demands.

I got my Fit-PC Slims directly from Compulab. Shipping took about a week, I was invoiced VAT directly from the carrier. Units were exactly as expected, no surprise. Payment was done via credit card. I got GB type power cable, that could be replaced very easily with a standard German type of cable ("3-poliger Kaltgerätestecker auf Schuko" ) hanging around here.

Is this the same unit that you have, as there are two versions, if so which one have you purchased?

thanks.

compulab offers two mini-PCs branded "fit-PC". The one you link points to is the older one called "fit-PC". The unit I selected for Meteohub is the brand new, smaller version (can be recognized from the slightly different housing and having just one LAN connector) called "fit-PC Slim".

You can find details about both at "fit-PC.com".

Meteohub is just tested on "fit-PC Slim". I doubt the image will work on "fit-PC" as well. At least installation might not work as explained, caused by another BIOS that might have trouble in booting from USB stick.

So pick "fit-PC Slim" without any hard drive installed (they call this version "diskless" on their web pages). Installation of an 2.5" SSD is quite easy in fit-PC Slim (no special tools needed).

Fit-PC Slim is now also listed at amazon.com. I would recommend diskless version and using a SSD drive.

Fit-PC Slim diskless (fair priced):

As seller is compulab, I don't see a real advantage compared to order directly from compulab via "fit-pc.com" web site. But at least I wanted you to know...

I ordered a ALIX.1D from Varia-store at noon friday and at the same time today it was delivered at my doorstep. Two workdays - impressive!

Price was far better than locally (Sweden), despite our currency falling lately. I want us to have Euro as well :)

Before buying I asked a question (in english) and got a very prompt reply. I got several e-mails about the status of my order, including parcel tracking information that worked all the way here. Everything about the buy was very professional.

In Spain, Barcelona you can get the eBox family at EPATec (www.epatec.es).
The "eBox 4300" is listed there as "eTC 2500". I've an eTC 2500 working now with MeteoHub.

In the UK I obtained an ALIX 1D from http://linitx.com/viewcategory.php?catid=176&pp=176
The site was easy to use.
A couple of phone queries I had were answered quickly by people who obviously knew what they were talking about.
The goods were dispatched and delivered promptly, and well packaged.
