MB Pro USB socket

Hi

Does anyone know if its possible to plug in a USB to RS232 converter into the MB Pro Red USB socket and use as a serial port?
I want to write a custom script that triggers on new data event which will transmit the data out the USB serial adapter...

If so, what USB to Serial chipsets are supported or have worked?
