How do I use "logging protocol" to get data from MeteoHub to
Hi all--
I'd like to access my weather data that now resides in MeteoHub on Weather Display on my laptop. I found a FAQ on the WD forums that addresses this, but the author seems to have a different version of the software from me (10.37f).
The FAQ says:
e) In the WD Control Panel COM Port window set up the TCP/IP connection to Meteohub, i.e.
WD => Control Panel => COM Port => TCP/IP connect on to Davis VP IP/VVP/Meteohub
However, I don't have a TCP/IP tab, and my TCP tab is blank (see attached image).
Can anyone help me out?
Thanks so much!

Oops--photo didn't upload. Trying again...

Sometimes in WD you have to change a setting to make another page show up.
Did you make sure you did step D:
d) In the WD Control Panel Station Type & Settings window select 'Stationless' as the station type, i.e.
WD => Control Panel => Station Type & Settings => Stationless/WLK/Vortex/VWS => Select 'Stationless'

That's me. :)viridiflora wrote:I found a FAQ on the WD forums that addresses this, but the author
If you have 10.37f then that is very old, and predates this feature.to have a different version of the software from me (10.37f).
You'll need to pick up a more recent version in order to use the logging protocol (point a) of the FAQ says that you should have a recent version).
N.B. It also needs to be:
a) The Windows version of WD (so far as I'm aware the logging protocol isn't implemented in the non-Windows releases).
b) The "Full" version of WD. The logging protocol isn't implemented in the "Basic" version of WD that is solely intended for direct contact with a WMR200.
Does that help?

Re:How do I use
Thanks Skyewright--that does help. My version came free with my hardware, and apparently it's a slimmed down version of the standard application. I downloaded the full version, & now we're in business.

Re:How do I use "logging protocol" to get data from MeteoHub
Hi, i've got a qüestion related with this post.
I have meteohub two months ago. Now, i've adquired the WD license, and i'm wondering if I can collect all the data from meteohub in the WD.
I've made all the steps from this grat FAQ (thanks),and now WD display the live data, but there is not any data from days and months ago, data that is in meteohub.
What I'm doing wrong?
Thanks

I'm in a big hurry right now, so I can't do a full description.
The N.B. in this post might give you the vital clue.
The main thing is to manipulate the value in the [Davis download] section to get WD to ask for the old data.
N.B.
a) Take a full backup of WD before you do anything!
b) Only edit WDISPLAY.INI when WD is not running!
Must go now. If you need more detail ask and I'll responde when I have more time...
Re:How do I use
Just when I posted my question, i read in the meteohub manual that i had to copy the log files in export folder from meteohub to WD. With this now i have the old data in WD, and this morning when I turned the computer on, WD got the data from the night, while the computer was powered off.
But now I realize that there is another problem, and it's that the Rain data is not copied, and in WD year data appears 0.00 when in meteohub I have 41.2 mm. What's wrong?
Thank you very much!

Rain is an awkward one. :(Patxi wrote:But now I realize that there is another problem, and it's that the Rain data is not copied, and in WD year data appears 0.00 when in meteohub I have 41.2 mm. What's wrong?
I don't have an easy answer available. :(
Fortunately for me I was using WD before I started to use Meteohub, so the problem didn't arise.
WD provides various means for editing rain data, so that's one possibility.
I believe that if you used the logging protocol to catch up the backlog of data then rain should get handled.
Something I haven't tried would be to load the space delimited logfiles into a spreadsheet, then use formulae to calculate the day, month and year totals, then use WD => Action => Convert Log File(s) to Graaphs (and Re create the last 32 days graph data). I'm not sure if that would help or not.
Just a few ideas...

I also thought in tis possibility, but I don't know how to use logging protocol to get all the old data from meteohub. I supose you are referring to your first answer. But I don't know what I have to change in WDISPLAY.INI in order for WD start getting the old data. The date perhaps?
Thank you very much, and excuse my english

If you look in WDISPLAY.INI after you next close WD you will find a section like this
[Davis download]
hour=0
minute=25
day=12
month=1
year=2009
The values in there tellWD from what point it needs to start pulling data from Meteohub when WD next starts.
If you edit the values before you restart WD, then you will change how far back WD starts looking.
If you set it back a long way, then you may find that after collecting a certain amount of data (~16hrs worth in my case), WD crashes.
If that happens:
a) Take a look in the logfiles to check the last date and time that was successfully read
b) Use that date & time to again adjust the [Davis download] section.
c) Start WD again.
d) Repeat until you get up to date.
Does that make sense?
Re:How do I use
I understand!;)
I'm going to do this and later I'll tell you the result.
Thanks skyewright;) I'm very grateful for your help
EDIT: Every 16 hours of data collection, WD crashes. And every 16 hours of data are about 30 minutes. I'm on 18/12/2008, so possibly i'll have all time data for thursday or friday...:ohmy:
Good night

Re:How do I use
I've done this and it works - but your lucky - I get about 16 minutees - not 16 hours and WD crashes... Oh well.....I'm just playing with it for now anyway....not sure I'm buying the full WD as I just have WD Live right now - but like to have a program on my computer that shows live data....
Re:How do I use
I mean that WD crashes after collecting 16 hours of data, that means about 20-30 minutes with WD working before crashing. If your WD crashes every 16 minutes of data, i'm sorry for you :(
I'm still collecting data, but I think I'll finish the work tonight :)
And the most important, rain data is now in WD database.
Thank you skyewright for your help!
